Apart from environmental pollution and the COVID-19 pandemic, racism and gender stereotypes are two dominant problems that face many countries and regions nowadays. A number of people and organizations have voiced their concerns over racial discrimination and gender prejudice. However, after decades, the issues are still left unsolved. Joining the fight, digital artist Denna Nguyen has published her illustration series that depicts surreal portraits with messages to stop racism and break stereotypes forced upon people.
The series, named This Is America, is something that the artist can do to make a difference, according to Denna. From what her followers asked, the artist started her series with "My race is not a virus", featuring an Asian woman with Sakura blossoms on the head and her mouth completely detached (5th pic). Then, she continued with African Americans with messages such as "My race is not a threat" (1st pic), "My race is not illegal" (2nd pic), "We are not terrorists" ( 3rd pic), and "We won't be silenced" (4th pic).
Through her illustrations, Denna shows strong support towards LGBT and homosexual love. She believes "Love knows no genders" (9th pic), and she wants to stop people from judging people of the LGBT community because "They are valid" (10th pic) and they deserve all human rights. Later, she speaks out her opinion that "It's OK for guys to cry" and "Women are not objects", hoping to blow out all the outdated stereotypes on different genders.
Thank Denna for her meaningful portraits. If you love her illustrations, please visit her website and Youtube for more information.
