Adorable Photos Of A Moose And Her Calves Sneaking Into A Family's Backyard

Roland Rydstrom of Anchorage, Alaska, recently had some unexpected visitors. Last week, a mother moose and her two offspring appeared on his property. As if that wasn't enough, the moose liked Rydstrom's grass so much that they chose to spend the day there.

The young companions taste-tested everything from the chairs to the gates, and after they were satisfied that the area was secure, they nestled up together and even lied down to sleep. Their mother even fed them lunch at one point. Rydstrom documented the whole family vacation from inside his home, and after it was finished, he posted the photos to the Internet. They quickly went viral, proving that something so innocent and sweet is just exactly what people need to see during these difficult times.

“I could watch directly them from my work spot. It was a great distraction and a fun way to spend the day while I was editing concert footage for my job with the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra. Throughout the day, as the moose changed lounging spots or walked away and came back, I’d go back to the window or the open door (the screen door was still closed), to take more pictures of them. They were oblivious to me most of the time (although their ears were up most of the time, so obviously they were alert).” Rydstrom recalled.

Nothing exactly like this had happened in Rydstrom’s backyard before. However, he also said that moose often visit it, this was only the first time that he was able to witness the incident himself. Roland's partner Cathy stated on Facebook that she has been in Alaska since 1976 and has never seen anything like this in her yard, although she has previously lived considerably higher up the hillside toward the mountains. “It happens all of the time for others; we just got lucky this time to experience it ourselves,” she said.

If this is the kind of cuteness we can expect, Alaska might just be the single best state in the USA and we should all move there! Though if you're not quite ready to make that commitment, you can simply enjoy these wonderfully adorable photos of the precious little family that we have gathered below:

The Alaska Moose is the state's official land animal, and 175,000-200,000 of these enormous beasts call The Last Frontier home. Male Alaska moose may stand over 2.1 m (6.9 ft) tall and weigh over 635 kg (1,400 lb). Female Alaska moose, on the other hand, stand around 1.8 m (5.9 ft) tall at the shoulder and can weigh up to 478 kg (1,054 lb). This makes the Alaska moose the biggest member of the deer family, as well as the largest moose in the world.
