A Forest Made From 3 Tons Of Plastic: The Inspiring Story Of A Talented Artist
Trash collectors, also known as "Pepenadores" in Mexico City, are often overlooked and undervalued. They do not receive the recognition or compensation that they deserve, despite the essential role they play in keeping our communities clean and healthy. However, Thomas Dambo has taken it upon themselves to change this perception and shine a light on the fantastic work these individuals do.
The artist believes that the lack of appreciation for trash collectors is one of the main reasons why our planet is currently overwhelmed with waste. People often do not consider where their garbage goes or who handles it, which can lead to a lack of concern for proper waste disposal and recycling. Thomas argues that if we show the incredible potential of repurposing waste, we can inspire future generations to view trash as something beautiful and valuable.
To bring attention to this important issue, he created a stunning work of art called "The Future Forest." With the help of over 700 students, an orphanage, an elderly home, and more than 100 volunteers, he collected three tons of plastic waste to create a 500m2 colorful plastic forest filled with flowers, trees, and animals. The Future Forest is currently on display at the botanical garden of Chapultepec in Mexico City. Just scroll down and enjoy this project!
