As Tim Burton’s Wednesday is now premiering on Netflix, let’s rewind and rank all of The Addams Family Movies that were made. It started from the first movie Halloween with the New Addams Family, a three-quel to two seasons of The Addams Family TV show in the 1960s.
The Addams Family is a popular franchise started from the 1930s about a quirky, creepy and spooky family. All the members of this family Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, and Fester are extremely odd and outcasts with their personas. For this reason, they are hilarious in a strange way and have influenced pop culture for almost a century.

#6. Addams Family Reunion (1998)

It was supposed to be a three-quel to complete a trilogy, following the success of The Addams Family and Addams Family Values. However, it did not meet the expectations. One of the reasons was the original cast was not present. Only Carel Struycken and Christopher Hart's hand reprised their roles. Moreover, the storyline is somewhat questionable as it lacks the symbolic macabre, dark comedy and irony which the previous movies are known for. This might be explained that it was aimed to entertain children mostly. Meanwhile the two first movies are rated as PG-19.

#5. Halloween with the New Addams Family (1977)

It is the first movie in the franchise, based on the original TV series in the 1960s. Almost every cast member reposed his role, except for the recast of Grandmama Eudora Addams with Jane Rose. It is set during Halloween as the family members gather to celebrate it with much drama and hilarious moments. Even though the plot is somewhat unimpressive, it is a decent movie to watch to be nostalgic as you might see the original cast.

The movie is a 3D animated movie, being the sequel to the first animated adaptation The Addams Family. Even though they both received negative reviews, the sequel did it worse. It was criticized for the boring, illogical plot which focuses on a family road trip. Moreover, the lack of familiar elements also disappointed fans of the franchise.

The prequel is quite more appreciated with its dark comedy, satire and resemblance to the Addams Family live-action movies. This animated movie is recommended to watch during Halloween or at a family gathering. However, there are some unnecessaries such as a lesson about being yourself and living as you want. It’s simply unrelated to the theme of a dark horror comedy.

It marked the breakthrough of this franchise once again after 2 decades. The Addams Family and its sequel are considered the best works of the franchise, including the series. Whenever the franchise is mentioned, it is the series that comes out first in one’s mind. The Addams Family movies cast including Anjelica Huston as Morticia, Raul Julia as Gomez, Jimmy Workman as Pugsley, Carel Struycken as Lurch and Christina Ricci as Wednesday remain iconic as off today.

The sequel is even more popular and appreciated than its predecessor. Most of all, both movies feature the macabre, gothic vibe and humor of the franchise. Every character is fun, entertaining to watch and his development is also dynamic and worth-watching. In general, the two movies are both frequent watches, especially during Halloween season.
