10 Celebrities Who Break Beauty Stereotypes That Society Puts On Women

To be viewed as a pretty woman these days, you have to be skinny, feminine, and trillion more things according to toxic beauty standards. Society has always put pressure on women and how they should look, especially in Hollywood. But some celebrities decided they’ve had enough of the stereotypes and were unafraid to show their “imperfections” to the world.
Their actions have inspired and empowered other women to break the rules and love their own bodies. Let’s see who they are and what they have done to change the definition of women's beauty.

Lady Gaga is one of the female singers who say no to traditional soft and fitting outfits. The queen goes wild in her music videos and on the red carpet, donning countless eccentric outfits that nobody can think of. Hollywood tries to bring her down by shaming her body, but Lady Gaga just doesn’t care.
“I’m proud of my body and you should be proud of yours too," she wrote on Instagram. "No matter who you are or what you do. I could give you a million reasons why you don’t need to cater to anyone or anything to succeed. Be you, and be relentlessly you. That’s the stuff of champions.”

Another beautiful star who has to endure the endless pressure society puts on women’s bodies is Rihanna. The singer outright criticized how the fashion industry has manipulated women into thinking they should be as skinny as possible to feel pretty.
“You shouldn’t be pressured into trying to be thin by the fashion industry, because they only want models that are like human mannequins," she said, “Being size zero is a career in itself so we shouldn’t try and be like them. It’s not realistic and it’s not healthy.”

3. Pink

There is no doubt that Pink is one of the most iconic celebrities who prove that a woman doesn’t have to be feminine and soft to be beautiful. She is a rock star with badass outfits and bright pink hair that never fit into gender stereotypes. Pink made an emotional speech at the VMAs, saying “We don’t change. We take the gravel and the shell and we make a pearl. And we help other people to change so they can see more kinds of beauty.”

Jennifer Lawrence was never the one to go on a crazy diet so she could be skinny and pretty like the typical Hollywood diva. Instead, she straight out told Harper’s Bazaar UK in November 2014: “If anybody even tries to whisper the word ‘diet,’ I’m like, ‘You can go f**k yourself.’” What a queen!

8. Ashley Graham

Ashley Graham really broke the belief that all models should be skinny in order to look good. She was the first plus-sized model featured on the cover of a sports magazine and walked runways for many designers. She embraces her natural figure and wants other girls to do the same.
“This is why I don’t post like the 'perfect' Instagram photos. I keep it real and raw constantly because I want [people] to know that there are women with cellulite, with back fat, with stretch marks," she explained, "There are a lot of curvy women, plus-size women, fat women, whatever you want to call them.”

9. Drew Barrymore

Another toxic beauty standard that society puts upon us is that women only look beautiful if they are young. Drew Barrymore thinks otherwise. She embraces her body's natural aging process in all of its glory. "If we’re lucky, we are all going to age," she said.
The actress also shared that she saw any signs of aging as the rings around a tree stump. "I say, don't fight the rings on the trunk of a tree. Just keep counting 'em," she claimed.

10. Jamie Lee Curtis

Another actress who stopped caring about her age or what people think about her body is Jamie Lee Curtis. She revealed that she's been "sucking in" her stomach since she was 11 years old, but she stopped that. "I very specifically decided to relinquish and release every muscle I had that I used to clench to hide the reality. That was my goal. I have never felt freer creatively and physically,” the actress said.
