In his early years, Dave Contra enjoyed playing with a boogie board and catching snakes. After years of working in video production, he developed a love for both painting and movies. Since he believes that film language translates remarkably well to comics, having experience with video is quite helpful to him. One of his favorite comics, “Bobby is a Tree,” was created with the goal of inspiring a deeply existential sensation. His interpretation of it reveals some of his psychologically more sinister aspects. Given his extreme smallness, his main objective is to work for himself and sustain himself.
Dave feels himself to be struggling with the art style as a rookie drawer. His style has become a little simpler over the past year due to his 9-to-5 job. Instead of being works of extraordinary beauty, he would desire to reach a stage where his art effectively communicates the idea it is trying to convey. His comics’ main goal is to make people laugh. Additionally, he illustrates concepts that he wants people to think about, such as the flatness of a pug’s face, plumbing systems, mortality, existence, and the universe. That is really amazing, isn’t it?
