Gate Season 3: Is The Series Getting An Upcoming Season?

The previous season ended almost 7 years ago. Until now, fans are still waiting for Gate season 3 to be aired. Let’s take a closer look at all these possibilities.

#1. The Beginning Of The Franchise.

First, Gate: Thus the Japanese Self-Defense Force Fought in Their Land is a Japanese fantasy novel series by Takumi Yanai with illustrations by Daisuke Izuka and Kurojishi. Later on, there was a manga adaptation to the series created by Satoru Sao and ended in 2015. Lastly, the anime series based on manga premiered from 2015 to 2016. The franchise has been popular since then. It is one of the rare novel series that has the adaptations in manga and anime. All of them are successful globally.

#2. The First And Second Seasons’ Plot.

Gate is set in modern-day Ginza, Tokyo. Unexpectedly, a portal has opened and brought in an ancient army and monsters resembling the Roman army to attack the city on purpose to conquer the whole planet. The Japanese Self-Defense Forces have taken steps to stop these invaders and found that it is a really tough mission. Afterwards, they decided to push the invaders back from where they were from, on the other side of the gate (the Special Region).
Also, a forward operating base (FOB) has been formed in the Special Region. It includes Youji Itami and several other members. In here, they have found themselves another special task which is helping the locals and gaining their trust.
Unfortunately, Crown Prince Zorzal was not happy with the presence of the Japanese and made the decision to defeat them. As a result, the Japanese forces had to face several difficulties with the troops and the Gate.

#3. The Reason For Its Delay.

Gate season 3 was not in the plan before. The series was completed in 2 seasons of the anime series. It was not until the ending of the anime that the novel Gate season 2: Jieitai Kano Umi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri was published. Therefore, there was not the material source for the three-quel. Anyways, fans have anticipated for the manga and anime adaptations to continue their trip to the fantastic Gate’s world.

#4. Possible Story In The Next Season.

The latest novel focuses on Japan Maritime Self-Defense Forces instead of the JSDF. They are sent on to the Special Region with a completely new mission, to discover this strange world. Because of that, Youji and his fellows have to deal with the new problems while exploring the seas of this region. The islands and the pirates are what will cause them unlimited troubles.

#5. Its Expecting Release Date

The manga adaptation is currently in the making and has been released in multiple chapters. Anyways, it has not come to an end yet. The last chapters will arrive at the end of December 2022. Therefore, it might take a little more time for the anime Gate season 3 to be on air. The earliest fans may reunite with the characters is in the mid to late 2023. It will be a new experience to the series’ ending and opens a whole new adventure. Waiting for quite a long time, fans never found bored hoping to see the new season. Foremost, the series serves with an interesting screenplay, well-built characters and logical twists. The longer the wait, the merrier the joy.
So far, we have been waiting for many upcoming sequels, prequels and also unconfirmed projects. It is great to see our favorite characters again in a new story.
