9 Times Directors Had To Tricked Our Eyes To Have A Best Outcome

Filmmakers will often do all their power to ensure that performers seem convincingly like their roles. Some performers must change their hair color, while others must perfect their pronunciation or spend months training in the gym. They may also find themselves having to play a character that is significantly shorter or taller than they are. And if this is the case, then filmmakers will need to employ a variety of techniques to create the desired impact.

1. Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon, who is 5 feet and 13 inches tall, is frequently mentioned in tabloid articles about famous people who are short. Both she and Robert Pattinson were featured in the film Water for Elephants. The filmmakers did a fantastic job, as the huge height difference between the performers (Pattinson is 6'1′′ tall) is barely evident.

2. Miley Cyrus

In the movie The Last Song, Miley Cyrus is shorter than her co-star, Liam Hemsworth, but still, the gap is not as big as it is in real life. Miley is 5 and 5 inches tall, while Liam is 6 feet and 4 inches.

3. Scarlett Johansson

Throughout the plot, several of the Marvel Universe's characters undergo drastic changes to their appearance. The use of CGI allowed for portraying a tiny and skinny Captain America before his transformation into a superhero. Scarlett Johansson, who co-starred with Chris Evans, had to grow taller for the role. She stands at 5 feet, 3 inches, whereas Evans is 6 feet tall.

4. Ingrid Bergman

If you watch Casablanca closely, you can notice that Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman's height difference shifts as the film progress. As far as possible, the filmmakers covered that Ingrid towered above her co-star. So the director slouched Bergman in certain parts and had Bogart sit on boxes and cushions to make it look the other way around.

5. Robert Downey Jr.

Since Robert Downey Jr. is 5 feet 8 inches and Gwyneth Paltrow is 5 feet 9 inches, the height difference between Tony Stark and his helper in the film is exaggerated. In addition, throughout the film she wears nothing but sky-high heels.

6. Josh Hutcherson

Josh Hutcherson is noticeably shorter than his co-star Jennifer Lawrence, yet the filmmakers of The Hunger Games made the height difference look natural. She is 5 feet, 9 inches tall, whereas he is 5 feet, 5 inches tall. While some people might be self-conscious about their height, Josh makes light of his little stature.

7. Gillian Anderson

In terms of height, David Duchovny is 6 feet and 1 inch tall. It's no surprise, therefore, that his on-screen co-star hid her height (5 ft 3 in) to play off of his height. Anderson claims that to be on the same level as David, whenever their characters entered a room and displayed their credentials, she had to stand on something. Also, she was once standing atop a box when she turned to the camera and promptly tumbled off.

8. Kristen Stewart

The fictional characters Bella Swan and Edward Cullen have become a cultural phenomenon because of their portrayal in the films of the Twilight series. He's taller than she is, and they complement each other well. The difference in height between the two performers is exaggerated here for dramatic effect. Kristen stands at 5 feet, 5 inches, whereas Robert towers above her at 6 feet, 1 inch.
