Beyond Castle Black and "North of the Wall," wildlings and White Walkers inhabit frozen lakes, lava plains, and snow-filled craters. Vatnajökull National Park, east of Reykjavk, protects this enormous tundra. The vast glaciers, ice caves, and active geothermal zones used as filming sites for GOT can be visited in Vatnajökull National Park, and the landscapes are as natural. Other Games of Thrones filming locations include the Myrdalsjokull glacier, the Hverfjall volcano, and the Grjótagjá geothermal hot spring.

This 700-year-old Andalusian palace appeared as the Water Gardens of Dorne in HBO's fifth season. The Royal Alcázar of Seville is Europe's oldest still-used royal palace (Spain's royal dynasty uses the upper chambers). Seville's complex tower is one of the best-preserved Mudejar (Moorish) specimens. The beautiful grounds are offered for guided tours for GOT and architectural enthusiasts.

Daenerys Targaryen (Mother of Dragons) is held hostage by nomadic horse tribes in GOT's sixth season. Cast and crew flew to northern Spain's Bardenas Reales Natural Park to film these sequences. These arid badlands can be visited by car, foot, or bike in Navarre, which borders Basque Country. (Some Dothraki Sea sequences were shot in Northern Ireland's Glens of Antrim.)

Visit Ireland's dark, craggy shoreline to see the harbor where Theon Greyjoy first arrived from Winterfell. Season 2 sequences were recorded at Dunluce Castle in County Antrim, two hours north of Dublin. (By automobile, Iron Islands shots were also filmed at Ballintoy Harbor, 20 minutes east of Dunluce Castle.) Don't expect a duplicate of House Greyjoy's magnificent stronghold at Pyke; use your imagination, and before Game of Thrones, the building was embellished.

This UNESCO World Heritage site wasn't used for Game of Thrones filming. Meteora's mountain-top monasteries were digitally mastered into the first season as Tyrion Lannister's Sky Cells. Hiking, biking, or rafting through the northern Greece valley is a great way to see these natural pinnacles.

This sequence was filmed at Guadalajara's Castle of Zafra. This 12th-century castle can be accessed by car from the village of Hombrados or by hiking for a few hours.
