The Ross family of Mt Maunganui, New Zealand, is so exciting to tell about their memorable experience with the audience about an odd fur seal breaking into their house, which is about 150m from the shore, through the catflaps. Jenn Ross, the mother, reveals that when she drove out of her house at 6 a.m., she heard strange noises like a dog barking. An hour later, she returned and found a seal slowly making his way into their spare room.Source: Phil Ross
After checking all the doors and windows, plus, their pet cat Coco abnormally stayed inside the house (while she always roamed outside), they believed the seal must have confronted their feline and scared her a bit. Afterward, the cat ran into the house and was followed by him. Upstair, Noah, 12 years old, and Ari, 10 years old, were still sleeping. Hence, Jenn woke her kids up and introduced them to their unexpected visitor. The seal was chilling in their spare room and hanging out on the couch. He appeared to be friendly and good-natured.Source: Phil Ross

The Ross family blew up the Department of Conservation's hotline. At 10 a.m., a ranger came and instructed them to help guide the seal out. Then, he successfully returned to the sea. Waving goodbye to the animal, Jenn and her kids nicknamed him Oscar. They waited for Phil, who was absent during the seal's visit, to come home and excitedly told him about Oscar and how they would have rathered a marine biologist at that moment, which made Phil feel so bittersweet.Source: Phil Ross

Phil informed that young seals are not rare to be seen as they begin to head out to the world. He explained them as being similar to teenagers: energic, curious, and hardly making necessarily sensible decisions. Also, the biologist warns that seals can inflict severe injuries if they feel threatened and carry infectious diseases. Therefore, in case anyone has seal-related problems, he advises them to contact the Department of Conservation.Source: Phil Ross
