Poodle Gets Rescued And Reunited With Owner After Being Trapped 500 Feet Underground For 2 Months

Abby, the poodle, wandered off deep into the cave, losing track of her owner. No matter how tragic the circumstances may seem, the poodle was the luckiest dog in the world.
While exploring 500 feet (152 meters) below ground, cavers discovered the pup in the darkness. After the owner's 13-year-old mixed-breed poodle disappeared two months ago, he lost hope of ever seeing her again. Let’s dive into the story.

On June 9, Abby still hadn't arrived at his house. After weeks of looking, nothing was found. But life is full of turns and turns, just like the network of tunnels that expert cavers explore. On August 8, Rick Haley and Gerry Keene led a group of people on a tour. An exciting project for the Cave Research Foundation explored caves north of Perryville, Missouri.
From the Berome Moore entrance, they were to move to the Tom Moore entrance but plans quickly changed when they encountered an unexpected dweller trapped 500 feet underground.

None other than Abby was curled up on the muddy floor, skinny and caked in dirt. Rick reported the puppy as incredibly weak and unable to whine or wag her tail. According to Daily Mail, dogs can often only survive for a few days without food and water, but fortunately, the cave has enough water.
However, he could not say the same when it came to sustenance: “As for food, I can think of nothing". The fact that she hadn't eaten in a very long time was evident from an inspection of her. This was heartbreaking to see and to think about how she endured.
The fact that it's humid and around 58 degrees (14C) made this difficult down there. Gerry Keene and Rick Haley led a 90-minute rescue mission.

After all, they didn't waste any time since a pup was waiting to be rescued! An urgent call was made to the fire department, and they were rushed to the scene by one of the members. Rick and Gerry had completed specialized cave rescue training, although this would be their first time rescuing a dog.

In the meantime, Gerry and fire chief Rob Cahoon went on a mission to find Abby's owner. As they knocked on every house in the neighborhood and showed the homeowners a picture of Abby, one neighbor recognized the pup and directed them to Jeff.
“I was absolutely astonished that she was still alive,” Jeff said. It is easy to imagine their excitement at being reunited. Before returning home, the lost pup went to the vet.
