Animals Of Madagascar: The Oddest Species On Earth

Madagascar is familiar with DreamWorks’ successful movie series and also the fascinating baobab trees. Thanks to its separation from Africa and India millions of years ago, its biological diversity has developed to a significant level. On this island, we may witness the strangest animals of Madagascar on the planet.
Sometimes called the 8th continent, this country is home to various species of odd plants and animals. It is nothing like its neighboring continents which are Africa and Asia. Moreover, people on this island never claimed themselves as Africans, they share more similarities to South and Southeast Asians. This became a destination for wildlife discovery and research in the 18th and 19th centuries. Then scientists found this island is amazingly different from the rest of the world. It had a maleficent scenery as well as the weirdest animals they had ever seen beforehand. Until now, Madagascar remains the most exciting site for explorers from all over the world. Scroll down to get to know the distinct animals of Madagascar!

Lemurs are native to Madagascar. There are over 100 species of lemur there. Lemurs mean ghosts as these animals are slow and mostly active at night. Among those, sifaka lemurs are the most well-known. They look like small monkeys with black faces and white furs, long legs. Most of their lives are on trees, they only hop to the ground occasionally. How they leap makes them get called the dancing lemurs.

These lemurs are the symbolic animals of this island country. King Julien from the Madagascar Movies is an individual of this species. Their tails are the distinguished features with 2 colors which are black and white. Unlike sifaka lemurs, they spend most of their time on the ground. As a result, they might be easy to see in the wild. In protected areas such as national parks or safari, they are reported to be friendly as they would approach visitors demanding to be fed.
