9 Celebrities Whose Relationships Destroyed Their Careers

When it comes to the institution of marriage, research says that the quality of our relationships affects our success in different ways. There’s no surprise that a toxic relationship can result in career destruction. Some people won’t believe it, because they can manage to avoid the negative effects of a breakup marriage and easily put the noise of it under control. So their careers will be as minimally affected as possible.
However, celebrities whose careers have always been associated with fame can't stop the news of their broken relationship from spreading in the press. Their story will be beyond everyone's expectations and someone must be held accountable for this scandal. That means either man or woman will be blamed for their marriage breakup. And then, the one who is considered guilty, will not have the support of the majority of people. In other words, people will turn away from that celebrity and as a result, that person's career is bound to go downhill for a significant time, or forever.

Mutual careers were ruined as a result of this power couple's split. A lot of this was down to Depp’s fame and their messy divorce, which ended with Heard being accused of domestic assault.
She was on her way to the top when she landed what then seemed like a dream job starring opposite Depp in “The Rum Diary”.However, her acting career was overshadowed soon after the star couple started dating. Even her roles as a superheroine and undersea royal were washed away by their very messy divorce. The painful breakup dragged on in the courts and tabloids for years. Now, Heard is still acting, but she might have been an even bigger star had she never waded into the deep end with Depp.

Nirvana’s leader was known for having a toxic marriage. In the 90’s "Sid and Nancy" first met in Portland, Oregon, with Courtney Love portraying the pursuer. Cobain eventually gave in to her advances and the couple had a romantic wedding in Hawaii in 1992, about half a year after the band's breakthrough album "Nevermind" was premiered.
Although the bride wore a dress once worn by a famous actress, the groom opted for a more casual outfit than green pajamas. This unsatisfactory start isn't the first warning sign for the self-destructive couple. Their battles with substance abuse are well documented, and being together may have exacerbated their problems. Cobain's marriage ended with his suicide in 1994, prompting millions of fans across the country and the world to mourn his loss.

She portrayed America’s girl next door on “Dawson’s Creek” until landing the real-life role of Tom Cruise’s wife in 2006. But shortly before that, she brilliantly managed to snag a prominent part in Christopher Nolan’s 2005 flick “Batman Begins.”
Despite the film’s success, she didn’t appear in the sequel, which we’re sure had nothing to do with her co-star modeling his “American Psycho” character on Cruise’s mannerisms. Some fans assumed Cruise and the birth of their daughter, Suri, portrayed part in her years-long hiatus from acting.

Britney Spears’ downward spiral may have started with her 55-hour-long marriage to Jason Allen Alexander, but oops, she did it again when marrying Kevin Federline after dating for just three months. To make matters worse, Federline’s ex was pregnant with his child at the time, which wasn’t a good look. The duo appeared in a short-lived reality TV Show about their relationship.
After they slit up, Spears went through some extremely public difficulties, culminating with her notorious head-shaving incident. The singer recovered with a sold-out residency in Las Vegas, but the 2007 breakdown continues to mar her career.

Whitney Houston who was a musical prodigy from a young age loved the one that her fans didn’t feel the same way, Flash B. After joining Brown in holy matrimony in 1992, her personal life and her spouse’s legal issues began stealing the spotlight. In the early 2000s, her album no longer dominated the chart, and her marriage grabbed headlines instead.
Brown made some fans consider him a destructive bomb when he was charged with battery against Houston. Her husband’s reality TV show didn’t help as it portrayed Houston negatively. However, the singer bounced back a few years later before tragically passing away.

Jennifer Lopez rose to her stardom as a dancer for the early 90s sketch comedy series “In Living Color”. After that, her titular role in the 1997 musician biopic “Selena” which cemented her fame made her career take off.
But everything changed when Jenny dated Ben Affleck. The duo’s 2003 comedy “Gigli” bombed hard as J.Lo found it difficult to brush off the box office stink, notably entering a professional rough patch. Thankfully, the beauty from the Bronx battled back to the top when becoming a judge for “American Idol” and starring in 2019’s “Hustlers”.

Jolie had achieved remarkable awards and generally slayed it before she dated Brad Pitt. During their marriage, it seems like the duo has zero luck making films together. We can name some movies that weren’t deserved their names and the latter performed embarrassingly at the box office, such as “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” and “By The Sea”.
