Back in 2013 when Google Glass was introduced, it shocked the world by its design and technology. For the first time, folks witnessed a wearable and smart device in the era of phones and tablets. Google and tech heads all laid hope on it to be the next big thing. Eventually, it did not meet the expectations.
Google is known to develop and experiment with futuristic high-tech products. Therefore their products and services are not always successful commercially. Google Glass is one of them. Prepared for many years before it went to the public’s acknowledgment, Google did have high hopes for this accessory. It made its way to Fashion Weeks, runways and advertisements. It was promoted as a high-tech device for fashionable individuals and fashion designers. Unfortunately, many people did not find it cool in any aspect. Many people claimed they felt nerdy wearing those glasses.
Google Glass’s most standout feature is to be used as a mobile device but wearable. It had a camera, micro and speaker. Users might browse, make calls and text with voice control. It sounds helpful since everyone tends to multi-task nowadays. But reality was another story. Most users did not find it practical. There was excitement at first but it could not change the habit of ‘grabbing the phone’. Smartphones took quite an amount of time to change people’s habits.

As mentioned above, Google targeted fashion designers and failed with it. Google’s products always attract mostly tech heads who understand the technology and have a passion for it. Google Glass is no different. Anyways, even their own fans did not find it a must to buy the device. Most of them were curious how it was like and any YouTube reviewer could satisfy them. They did not have to actually get the device to experience it. Although there were not many things to experience.It was priced at $1500, not an ideal price for retailing. For the same price, there are plenty worthy options. The value it brought seemingly did not go with the price tag. Public saw it as a technology toy more than an essential. Even initially Google did not aim for commercial success, it was a hit for the idea but a miss for the usage.
Since it might be used as a camera and video recorder, many restaurants and public locations banned Google Glass for their customers’ privacy. It could be used in wrong ways by bad guys.

Despite its expected failure, Google still upgraded Google Glass four times. The current version is called Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2. It’s not for mass consumption but for business customers and partners. They may request to customize the device as their own demands.
