Get to Know the Biggest Stars from Shang Chi Cast

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021) is Marvel’s first Asian-themed movie. It tells the story of Shang-Chi, one of the newly introduced superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel Studios has recruited some really big names for the Shang Chi cast, let’s find out below.

The movie presents many rising stars and also legendary Asians in Hollywood. We may call out some specific names from the cast. Those are Simu Liu (played Shuan/Shang-Chi), Awkwafina (Katy), Michelle Yeoh (Ying Nan) and Tony Leung (Xu Wenwu). We will have a thorough look at their careers.

For any Hong Kong/Chinese movie fans, Leung is not an unfamiliar name. His talent and longevity in acting are recognized globally. He started to pursue acting in 1983. At the time, Hong Kong was called ‘Hollywood of the East’ with a large number of notable actors and directors. Leung was working continuously with Wong Kar-wai who directed In the Mood for Love. This movie earned Leung a Cannes Film Festival award for Best Actor. Through Shang-Chi, Leung’s name is more approachable for the younger generation. Many fans praised Marvel for casting him in the Shang Chi cast.

The Malaysian actress started her career early in Hollywood, in the 90s. She participated in several top box office Movies such as Tomorrow Never Dies,  Memoirs of a Geisha, Kung Fu Panda 2, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny and Crazy Rich Asians. Out of Chinese/Asian actresses who succeeded in the States, Yeoh remains her name until now. In her late 50s, she is still cast in new projects, movies and TV series. She is also one of the most influential individuals in 2022, listed by Time.

Born in China and later settling in Canada, Liu has taken small steps to gain recognition in Hollywood. He initiated his acting career being a background actor and a stuntman in many movies and music videos. 2015 marked a milestone in his career by taking roles for Blood and Water andKim's Convenience. Liu appeared on several TV projects afterwards. Shang-Chi is his debut on the big screen. This is his breakthrough to the mainstream after many years working on TV shows. He also released his own book titled We Were Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Origin Story.

Awkwafina, real name Nora Lum, is a rising Asian American talent. She’s the first ever actress of Asian descent who received the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical for her leading role in The Farewell. She’s a multitasking woman who released 2 rap albums, appeared on several films and TV shows. Her most known works include Ocean's 8, Crazy Rich Asians, The Angry Birds Movie 2, Raya and the Last Dragon and so much more.
