15 Famous People Who Were Temporarily Or Permanently Banned From Social Media

Over the last decade, social media has evolved into a platform for people to express themselves and share their thoughts on a regular basis. More importantly, it's an exciting place for celebrities where they show their daily life and interact with their fans. However, this does not mean that celebrities always follow online regulations, which is why a shockingly large number of celebrities have been banned on social media in recent years.
Famous people have been banned from social media for a variety of reasons, including publishing naked images in protest of one social platform's rules and regulations or imposing a self-imposed ban. While some of them are quite predictable, others may surprise fans.
So, for those who are unaware, and in response to some recent scandals that have been making news waves in recent weeks, here are 12 celebrities that have been banned from social media!

#1 Scout Willis

Scout Willis, the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, was banned from Instagram for an unusual reason. She was dressed in a sweater she made, which featured an illustration of two topless ladies. Scout later pointed out that, while women can legally be topless on New York City streets, Instagram won't even allow an illustrated female nipple, which she thought sexist.

#2 Milo Yiannopoulos

Milo Yiannopoulos, a right-wing writer and professional social media troll, enjoyed using social media to say inappropriate things in order to draw attention to himself. He was banned from Twitter in 2016 for instigating abuse of Saturday Night Live and Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones, among other things.

#3 PewDiePie

PewDiePie (actual name Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg) is one of the world's most successful YouTube stars, with some of his videos garnering over 300 million views. While he is well-known on YouTube, he has been banned from Twitter several times, including once for making a joke about the terrorist organization ISIS. Yikes!

#4 Addison Rae

Addison Rae is one of TikTok's most popular performers, so it came as a surprise when she appeared to have been banned from the platform in October 2021. However, the ban appears to have been a glitch, as her account was down for less than two hours.

#5 Perez Hilton

Perez Hilton, the famed celebrity gossip columnist, is now a celebrity in his own right, with over a million followers on social media. In 2020, he was banned from TikTok for life, which he blames on some of the app's biggest stars, including the D'Amelio family, whom he had occasionally mocked.

#6 Marjorie Taylor Greene

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is a great lover of Donald Trump, but not so much of the truth. She, like her idol Trump, has been barred from using Twitter indefinitely. Her personal account was banned in January 2022 after she provided misleading and harmful material about COVID-19 vaccines on multiple occasions.

#7 Chelsea Handler

Chelsea Handler's nipples, like Rihanna's, got her in problems with Instagram. She received a short Instagram ban in 2014 after posting a picture of herself riding a horse without a shirt on (which seems uncomfortable, to be honest).

#8 Rose McGowan

Rose McGowan, an actress and activist, is no stranger to controversy, however, she has remained active on most social media networks. She was temporarily suspended from Twitter in 2017 following a series of comments in which she chastised Ben Affleck for his business dealings with infamous movie producer Harvey Weinstein, including one that included a private phone number, which is against Twitter policy. Her ban was only in effect for 12 hours after the offending post was deleted.

#9 Azealia Banks

Azealia Banks is a rapper who has recorded many albums, but she is best known for being a social media hothead. She's had numerous public spats (including with Elon Musk, Grimes, Lizzo, and Zayn Malik) and stated numerous homophobic things, earning her a lifetime suspension from Twitter.

#10 Courtney Love

Courtney Love was banned from Twitter in 2011 after going on a rant over Dawn Simorangkir, a fashion designer with whom she had a significant feud. The former Hole singer made some derogatory things against Dawn, and her account was permanently deleted.

#11 Rihanna

Rihanna, the music icon and soon-to-be mother, has been banned from Instagram several times, but not for encouraging violence. She's been accused of promoting horniness, as her bans were for breaking the platform's nudity regulations, which included sharing a topless photo of herself.

#12 Alex Jones

Alex Jones, a right-wing talk show personality and conspiracy theorist, was also banned from Twitter for encouraging and inciting violence. But the Infowars host has been barred from not only Twitter but also YouTube, had his podcast taken from Apple platforms, and had multiple pages removed from his Facebook account.

#13 Kanye West

Although photographs of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian from happier times may still be found on Kim's Instagram account, her rapper ex, now known as Ye, has been temporarily banned from the platform after making numerous threats to both Kim and her current boyfriend, Pete Davidson. Let's hope he uses these prohibitions to perform some introspection.

#14 Donald Trump

Following the events of January 6, 2021, when a mob stormed the US Capitol in support of then-President Donald Trump, Twitter permanently barred Trump, citing the fact that his tweets increased "the potential of additional encouragement of violence." Is anyone else loving the quiet?

#15 Rob Kardashian

Rob Kardashian (whose Instagram account specifically states that it is administered by Jenner Communications) was banned from Instagram in 2017 for posting revenge porn photographs of his ex-fiancée Blac Chyna during the couple's ugly split and co-parenting struggle. That's not a good look, Rob!
