Shelter Dog Gets Unforgettable Farewell When He's Finally Adopted After 6 Years Of Waiting
Most pets living in animal shelters spend all their time waiting for a forever owner. Some are lucky to get their home after a short time, while others might be left behind for years. The dog Stevie in the following story had to wait six years until finally leaving his shelter for a new sweet place.
Elanza Kloppers, the adoption manager at Dogtown SA, shared: “Stevie met lots of potential families, but for some reason, another dog was always chosen. Many of his roommates got adopted through the years and we were always hoping that something would come along for Stevie. Being a black dog also didn’t help, as it's quite common for black dogs to be overlooked in shelters.”
“When I finally got the news from the adopter that Stevie was the one, I could not wait to give the team the news. They were overjoyed! Finally, it happened for our boy. We have all been hoping and praying for so long! I also let our volunteers know immediately, and they could not believe the news. Everybody was so happy for Stevie. It was beautiful to see,” Kloppers stated.

Stevie was a one-year-old stray dog when he came to Dogtown SA. He was an amicable and lovely boy for both people and other dogs. Staff in the SA used to be sure that he would be adopted soon with his cheerful disposition. However, despite many prospective owners, he still was overlooked for six years while many others were adopted. The shelter team did not know why this happened, but they guessed his black color could be one of the reasons.Elanza Kloppers, the adoption manager at Dogtown SA, shared: “Stevie met lots of potential families, but for some reason, another dog was always chosen. “All our adoptions are special, but some are just beyond special,” Kloppers said. “Through the years we have had one or two adoptions which really stood out, and for those dogs, we have always had a special farewell. The team all wanted to say goodbye to him and wish him well.”Source: /dogtownsa
Everyone decided to give the special dog a remarkable farewell on the day he left. All wanted to see him off and bless him, so they lined up along the way that Stevie went out to the vehicle. The dog was excited to see all people he loved waiting for him and encouraging him. Swinging his tail, Stevie jumped enthusiastically to every person to say goodbye before heading to his forever home.Source: /dogtownsa
Kloppers claimed: “Stevie wagged his tail and said a special goodbye to everyone. He has come to love our team so much and I think he couldn’t believe his eyes having all his favorite people together, just wishing him well and cheering him on. It was quite an emotional day for all of us. Stevie jumped into the vehicle with his normal, wiggly bum as if he knew, finally, his day had come! Warm in his favorite jacket and surrounded by his favorite people, he hopped into the vehicle quite happily.”Source: /dogtownsa
