Dad Gets Criticized And Addressed As "A Betrayal" By Reddit For Secretly Getting Rid Of His Son's Kitten

As far as we are concerned, pets can be a good solution for parents to discipline children and keep them befriended. Many people happily confess that they are thankful to their parents for bringing such angelic little companies. A pet has the power to enlighten somebody's childhood and give that child the courage to overcome the rough-and-tumble moments. However, things can worsen if parents don't carefully deal with their children and pets.

That was the case from a Reddit account name u/avocadotoast9u. He wrote his story on the viral subreddit r/AmItheA**hole to ask for advice on how to make it up with his son. Here is the whole context: when the OP's son turned fourteen, he got him a kitten named Cantaloupe. The young boy was so in love with the cute feline that he was always with him. Because of the cat, he was more cheerful and smiling, which pleased his dad's heart.

But soon after that, the OP found the kitten unbearable when he often left "nasty surprises" all over his house. He tried many ways, from searching the internet to bringing the cat to the vet, yet still no solution for him. He discussed with his son the trouble but they couldn't figure it out. Desperately, the OP secretly took the kitten away and gave him to his aunt. His son was extravaganza upset to find out his deary kitty no longer staying by his side all the time.

The incident didn't stop there. The OP invited his girlfriend to move in thus their father and son's relationship became tense and stressful. His son wouldn't see his face and forgive what he had done to his sweet little friend.
Redditors assumed that the OP deserved whatever his son treated him. They blamed him for being irresponsible and heartless. The cat had brightened his son's days just to get thrown away because he had trouble doing toilet duty, which couldn't be considered reasonable for an adult.

Reddit claimed that the OP would always remain a betrayal in his son's eyes unless he brought him back his missed cat. They also gave him tips to deal with the feline's problem as well as shared their experiences on how they trained their cats to use a litter box. They expected it was a good chance for the OP to educate his son about responsibility by making him share with taking care of the cat.
