20 Reasons “You Should Have Hired An Architect” Shared By This Facebook Group

Human inventiveness knows no limitations, but that does not mean that every idea we have is worthy of implementation. Sure, it's difficult to dispute that taste is a question of personal preference — what is fashionable to one person may be dangerous to another! When it comes to homes and interiors, though, there are some truly awful design ideas out there that not only beg to be critiqued, but nearly demand it.
We're not ones to pass up an opportunity to make fun of poor judgment and, hopefully, learn something new in the process. Let me present you to the Facebook group aptly titled 'You Should Have Hired An Architect.'

Let's start with a standing ovation for the 'You Should Have Hired an Architect' club, which just celebrated its one-year anniversary! Over 41K committed members commemorate the occasion by sharing the oddest design solutions they come across online on a regular basis. We were curious to learn more about this project and its community, so we reached out to Allison Beer McKenzie, an architect and director of sustainability at SHP Leading Design in Cincinnati, Ohio, who serves as the group's administrator.

The architect described the members of this forum as "a very active collection of bloggers and commentators," which "makes the discussion a lot of fun." However, individuals over there can get a little carried away at times. "Debate, like many Facebook groups, may get hot at times. I'm blessed to have a fantastic team of moderators who help me keep things lighthearted and informative "she continued.

You'll note as you go through this list that there's no shortage of material for online community members to mock. It's difficult to pick favorites because there have been so many faulty designs presented in the group, according to Allison. However, she pointed out a few of new ones that were just posted in the last few weeks, so be sure to check them out here and here. The architect stated, "They vary from technically poor design to rooms that work badly to things that just look ludicrous." "We also get a lot of fun posts about residences that are just a little too extravagant or highly taste specific.
