Amber Heard May Dodge Bankruptcy Due To Fan-Launched Gofundme Campaigns
With twists that put Gone Girl to shame, the Heard-Depp divorce will come down in history as one of the most infamous and publicized. Details from the trials show two toxic people going out of their way to hurt each other.
The legions of fans from both sides viciously tore their opponent apart. On every social media platform, there are threads upon threads about how Depp was a pig and Heard was a monster.
In short: it was ugly!
While there is fear that Amber Heard might need to declare bankruptcy, Amber Heard's fans have taken it upon themselves to assist the actress with the $10.35 million.
The 58-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean star was seeking to sue Heard, 36, for $50 million after she referred to herself in a 2018 op-ed for The Washington Post as a "wife-beater." Meanwhile, Depp was countersued for $100 million by the Aquaman star.
As witnesses and specialists from both sides testified in court throughout the seven-week trial, both sides accused the other of being abusive. On Wednesday, the jury unanimously voted in favor of Depp, and the court granted him $10 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive penalties.
Elaine Bredehoft, Heard's attorney, subsequently appeared as a guest on the TODAY program, telling presenter Savannah Guthrie that the Aquaman actor can "absolutely not" pay the $10.35 million in damages.
Although Bredehoft did not elaborate on these remarks, it appears that Heard's fans have taken action on her behalf.
The fundraiser's description stated:
"The trial was a disgrace. I believe Amber and social media protected the abuser. The judgment exceeds her net worth. It's so sad that he was able to get away with the abuse. The judgment furthers that abuse. If you can please help her. She will have direct access to the money."
Moore also stated that she had spoken with Heard's attorney in order to "loop" the actor in.
According to TMZ, a GoFundMe spokesman verified that the fundraising was not put up by Amber Heard or a member of the actor's family.
"She doesn't have the funds to pay the judgment rendered against her in a Virginia courthouse. Whether you were for her or against her, the fact remains that she does not have the resources as Johnny Depp.
He continues, "The constitution exists for a purpose. Now, the matter will be appealed, but the appellate process is different. She will need to proceed without constantly thinking of the enormous debt."
While Heard walked away with $2 million of restitution from Depp from her countersuit, paying the court-ordered money to Depp will bankrupt the actress.
