Mom Is Called Devil For Not Getting Her Daughter Emotional Support Dog, But Reddit Defends Her And Points Out The Real A**hole

One mom on Reddit is feeling the sting, and she recently posted: “AITA for refusing to get my daughter an emotional support animal?" She felt bad for her decision, so she went on Reddit to ask if she was at fault. She hoped that she would receive judgment or advice from Redditors.

In the “Am I The A—hole?” subreddit, this mom going by the username ExchangeSuccessful21 explained that her daughter had anxiety issues, and her therapist recommended an emotional support dog. He said that her daughter would be able to take the dog to school and into shops etc.

The problem with that is the fact that the mom is not a dog lover, so she doesn't like to bring one home. Although everyone says that the dog can be trained, she still remains that she just doesn't like dogs. If she agrees to get her daughter one, it is not fair to the animal.
When she refused, her daughter thought she was a devil for not getting her a dog who would really help her in her day-to-day life. Her brother defended her daughter and said that she needed to stop being so vain with regard to her house.

Hard no, Redditors quickly responded. Most of them agreed that the mom was not the a**hole and pointed out the bad guy was the therapist. He needs to learn the law before suggesting it to her daughter. Emotional support dogs don't have the same legal rights as actual service dogs do. Not everyone can take them into stores or schools! Only doctors can prescribe a service animal, not just a therapist.

The mom also shared that she and her husband had spent a lot of money on furniture, good appliances, the kitchen, the bathroom, etc. Therefore, when she refused to get her daughter an emotional support dog, everyone thought that she prioritized her expensive house over her daughter.
"Some of the replies are responding as though I'm asking if it's ok to not send my daughter to a therapist so I can get a new kitchen lol," she commented.
