7 Plot Twists That Slapped Us Right In The Face In The Middle Of The Movie

Plot twists are a powerful tool in movie storytelling, especially when done right. Often placed at the end of the film, plot twists can turn the movie into a masterpiece, or ruin the whole watching experience for the audience. They can blow our minds and make us scream “No way!” excitedly, or they can make us cringe and ask: “Really?” However, some Movies refuse to place the big twist at the end and slap it right across our faces halfway through instead.
These plot twists surprise us and leave us in awe for the rest of the movie. They are shockingly brilliant! So scroll down and find out if your favorite plot twist is on the list!

However, the big twist soon comes when the previous housekeeper return to the house.
Roughly an hour into the film, the twist happens. Turns out the housekeeper’s husband was living under the secret basement of the house. After the big twist, Spider-Man spent the rest of the movie fighting somebody he once trust, which gives us some very interesting fight scenes.

Speaking of Marvel movies, Iron Man 3 also reveals its big twist in the middle of the movie. In this film, Tony Stark has to face a terrorist known as the Mandarin, who is played by Ben Kingsley. However, after Tony tracked Mandarin down to his base in Miami, the hero soon discovered that everybody had been fooled all along.
The person that we thought was the Mandarin is merely a hired actor. He has nothing to do with the crimes that are committed by the Mandarin. The real terrorist is the benevolent scientist Aldrich Killian. Drama arises, sad background stories are revealed, and a lot of epic fight scenes unfold right after the twist.

The twist in From Dusk Till Dawn not only changes the vibe of the movie but also changes the film's genre from a crime thriller to a horror flick. The first half of the movie appears to be a heist story about two sibling bank robbers. However, things soon change when the protagonists find themselves stuck in a bar full of vampires. Suddenly the boys have to fend for their lives and need to kill all the vampires if they want to get out of that bar.

5. Psycho

Psycho's plot twist is the most significant and surprising in film history. Nobody could see it coming. The story fooled us into thinking that Marion Crane, played by actress Janet Leigh, was the main protagonist. The setting, the characters, the atmosphere,...everything was perfectly typical for a horror flick. Marion must be the final girl, right? Then BAM! She was brutally murdered in the middle of the movie! WTF?
Hitchcock completely subverts expectations. He tricks us into thinking Marion is the main character, so when she is killed off the audience doesn't know what to expect. How can the movie continue without the lead role? Turns out the true protagonist is the killer, and the rest of the movie tells his story and the psychosis that has led him to become violently demented.

6. The World's End

The World's End started out as some kind of friendship story that teaches us how events from the past impact us in the present. Then one of the main characters got drunk, went to the bathroom, and got himself into a fight where he punched a teenager's head off. Suddenly we find out that just about everyone in town is a robot. From a comedy, the movie becomes a sci-fi movie about humans versus robots and the apocalypse.

7. The Skin I Live In

Antonio Banderas’s role as Dr. Robert Ledgard in The Skin I Live In is one of his most terrifying performances on the screen ever. In this movie, he plays a plastic surgeon who wants to develop artificial skin that could be used to help burn victims. We were tricked into thinking that his purpose to do this research stemmed from his wife’s tragic fate. However, halfway through the movie, we discovered that his hostage and test subject Vera is not a woman.
He is Vicente, a young man Robert mistakenly believes once violated his daughter, which led to her suicide. After his daughter’s death, Robert kidnaps Vicente and uses his medical skills to forcibly transform him into a woman. The doctor wanted to test the skin on him to turn him into his new wife. The twist makes change all of our perception of Dr. Ledgard.
Those are some plot twists that happen midway through the movie and still make us gasp at the end. For more interesting movie facts, check out our previous post about deleted movie scenes that could have changed everything here!
