Gordon Ramsay, the famous British chef and TV personality, is also an outspoken opponent of the illegal shark fishing industry. A BBC documentary, Gordon's Shark Bait, sent him to Costa Rica in search of the illegal shark fin trade. Authorities suspect the group that challenged Ramsay and his team had connections to the underground drug trade.
The "thugs" then threatened to kill everyone in the group unless Ramsay stopped photographing the shark fishermen. The Costa Rican police reportedly advised Ramsay and his team to leave the country.

Rapper Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson was shot nine times outside his grandmother's home in Queens, New York, in 2000, just before he became famous. Jackson was injured in his hand, arm, hip, legs, chest, and left cheek, and he spent the next 13 days in the hospital and the next five months rehabilitating. In the end, neither Jackson nor the police could determine who fired the shots.
Darryl "Hommo" Baum, once Mike Tyson's bodyguard, was an early suspect in the shooting. Supposedly, "Supreme," a local drug king, paid Baum to assassinate Jackson over a narcotics disagreement. A suspect in the attempted murder shot and murdered Baum three weeks later.
Someone claims that Tyson gave them $50,000 to deal with those responsible for Baum's death. Supreme was allegedly implicated in the attempt on Jackson's life by rival rappers from Murder Inc. who testified against him in 2005.

Robert Dewey Hoskins, Madonna's stalker, had many run-ins with the singer before breaching her Hollywood Hills property fence in 1996. After seeing the singer's performance, Hoskins said he would "either marry [her] or slice her neck." As a result of a shot fired by one of her bodyguards, the police were able to apprehend him.
While Madonna wasn't there to testify against him at the time, she did so subsequently. In 2012, Dewey escaped from a Los Angeles mental institution, where the courts had put him following a 2011 conviction for something unrelated, but he was swiftly recaptured and returned.

Police say that when Perrette was strolling through her Los Angeles neighborhood, Merck grabbed her arm and tried to force her to follow him. She eventually convinced him to release her, and then she phoned the police, who tracked down Merck at a 7-Eleven store.
Merck, who already had a criminal record, pled "not guilty" to the felony assault allegations. Merck was declared mentally incompetent to face trial and sent to an institution. In 2018, he was freed from a state institution.

The first time someone tried to kill Tupac Shakur was in 1994 when he was shot in a Manhattan recording studio lobby. As the three assailants did not steal his Rolex, Shakur concluded that he had been set up. Rappers Notorious BIG and Puff Daddy, he said, plotted the attack on Tupac Shakur, which occurred days before a judgment was to be handed down in Shakur's sexual assault case. An unidentified gunman shot and murdered Shakur in a Las Vegas drive-by in 1996.

Jackie Chan's rivalry with the Chinese organized criminal group known as the triads, which infected the Hong Kong film industry and habitually extorted money from its members, lasted for many years. A triad sniper allegedly fired at Chan when he arrived in the United States from Hong Kong.
Later that year (2012), Chan said he was attacked by triad guys armed with machetes while having dinner. Chan retaliated to the assaults by hiring mainland Chinese thugs and arming himself with weapons and explosives. His payment was accepted, and they left him alone.
