Check Out Hilarious Spider-Man Cast Reaction To Their Own Auditions Clips
Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon revisit their initial audition videos for 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming in celebration of the film's digital release. We get a look at each actor's first audition in the 2-minute footage, as well as the trio's amusing responses to their line deliveries.Watch the segment below:
Of course, Holland starts his tryout with a backflip. Because Spider-Man's work is so physically demanding, you may as well show them what you've got, right? Holland's portrayal of Peter Parker, oozing childlike confidence from the start, is instantly clear. It's simple to see why his audition was kept for the following round of callbacks by casting directors.
Next up comes Batalon, whose self-tape has all the charming hallmarks of a young actor just starting out. Before beginning his scene, he slates his first and last names, then walks fully off of sight. He breaks character — and the fourth wall — in the end, to express gratitude to the casting directors who saw his clip. His eccentricities in his video are delightful, and they perfectly complement his portrayal of Peter Parker's best pal Ned.
Finally, we get a look at Zendaya's audition for the part of Michael Jackson. She's clearly a seasoned veteran at this point, having already been on Disney Channel's Shake It Up and K.C. Undercover. The actress is framed in front of a neutral blue wall, and her self-tape is well-lit. Her performance is calm and sophisticated, with none of the anxious energy that can be seen on Holland or Batalon's early tapes. Holland tells Zendaya, "Yeah, yours is really good." "It's like watching a good audition tape," Batalon responds with a giggle.
