Doctor Strange 2 Is Just As Ambitious As No Way Home, Says Benedict Cumberbatch
How high is Marvel Studios' ambition on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness? It's super remarkable, as confirmed by Benedict Cumberbatch himself.
Empire Magazine has dedicated its latest issue to an exclusive service on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the new MCU film with Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong and Patrick Stewart, who a few days ago confirmed to reprise his role as Charles Xavier from the X-Men movie saga.
The news of Stewart's involvement in the role he has played since the early 2000s obviously delights Marvel Cinematic Universe fans, who still have in mind what the studios managed to do with Spider-Man: No Way Home and its thrilling parade of memories.
Will something similar happen in this new film too? The odds are very high.
Asked about the new adventure of the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth, Benedict Cumberbatch, currently among the nominees for the Academy Award for Best Actor thanks to his outstanding performance in The Power of the Dog, discussed what will be the scope of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
“It’s a big, big movie,” the actor promised. “It’s going to be an absolute riot. And if it brings off the level of ambition it’s got, we’re going to have a success on the level of Spidey. There you go, I’ll put my flag in the sand.”
Given that Spider-Man: No Way Home has grossed over $ 1.86 billion and hasn't stopped yet, those are clearly big words from the not-quite-Sorcerer Supreme.
“Strange is still learning about the Multiverse. And here’s a character that can actually travel through it. He’s such a know-it-all all the time, and to have to learn from a kid probably smarts,” he said.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to premiere on May 6, 2022.
