Beautiful Blackout Tattoos Covering Large Areas Turn Limbs Into Elegant Artworks

Throughout her career of over 20 years as a tattoo artist, Esther Garcia has been adding an ornamental touch to her clients’ arms and legs, developing her style to blend the elements of the blackout trend with colorful blooms, winged creatures and decorative motifs floating on our skins.
Garcia initially came up with the intention to design coverup tattoos where she inks over a preceding pattern someone wants to hide, and the solid black ink truly assists in muting the visual chaos of the previous tattoo, while also paving the way for new creations.
Then, gradually, her artworks grow so popular that they are no longer confined within the purpose of concealing; instead, they are requested to be performed on the skins of numerous clients.
Inspired by the tradition of Dutch flower painting from the 17^th century, Garcia’s blossoms contain a correspondingly genuine impression that induces the same lushness and light on a dark backdrop.
The reds and pinks shine like a beacon of light against the rich black ink and indicate a welcome start—particularly for those who had been enduring unwanted body art.
Currently, Garcia is working on projects that are off the body, after spending 20 years working in the tattoo sector, owning herself a studio in Chicago named Butterfat.
One endeavor in the works is called Flower Thieves, a textile and commercial design collaboration with freelance artist and illustrator Kyle Letendre.
