Mother Clarifies The Reason She Never Compels Her Son To Share Anything, Even His Toys
Sharing is one of the principal things in children upbringing, believes the majority of adults. It’s always nice to see kids who are nice, obedient, well-behaved and willing to share things, including toys, with their peers.
Although this may conceptually appear to be appreciable, in fact there are certain cases that it proves unrealistic, particularly when applying on adolescents and adults.
I have consistently believed that life would be simple and straightforward until the birth of my little princess, whom I would often bring to the pre-school or the park, happily observing her play joyfully with the toys.
Then, suddenly, another child would come by and grab the toys, and I used to hope that my daughter would ‘share’ it, maybe because the other child couldn’t be patient for its turn?
Or is it because that kid wanted to play the toy my daughter was holding upon seeing her happily interact with the things? Or is it because I am afraid that that kid would burst into tears, making me embarrassed in front of its mother?
Truthfully, I don’t know how it exactly felt apart from a bit of ‘good manners’ I opt to teach my daughter to share, though it is completely unpleasant.
Why is it unpleasant? Because my little lady is, honestly, completely adorable and gentle, and it pains me to promote such behaviors of the kid who would lean by and snatch my girl’s toys. It never felt true to me.
In saying that, I kept doing it because it's just 'what you do'. Recently, however, a mother with an online presence has emerged and elucidated the reason she never compels her son to share toys. It's a seriously great read.
