Robert Pattinson On Initial Backlash Over Batman Casting: “Only 70% Negative? A-plus!"

Yesterday, The Batman by Matt Reeves, one of the most anticipated films of the year for many audiences, was finally released in cinemas with Robert Pattinson in the role of Bruce Wayne.
During a recent interview with The LA Times, Robert Pattinson returned to discuss his casting for the role of the Dark Knight, which was widely discussed on social media as many people remained stuck in his role in Twilight without following the rest of his career.
In this regard, the actor explained that he too was aware of these criticisms.
“I was actually mocked less than I usually am,” he said jokingly. “I was quite shocked. ‘Only 70% negative? A-plus!’ ”

"Even like five years ago, I was the last person I would think would be cast as Batman," Pattinson added. "I’m never normally in consideration for superhero parts at all. Usually [in those roles] you’re either a total unknown or someone who just, I don’t know, seems more obvious. I don’t understand what it was about Batman, but I got really fixated on it and kept pushing my agent about it."
The actor also expressed his admiration toward the director of the film, Matt Reeves.
"I loved Matt’s work on the Planet of the Apes Movies so much, and a lot of Matt’s work," he shared. "And I was thinking, if you can get that performance out of a monkey… Then I met Matt and just he had such an interesting take on the character, and it just felt very different and kind of dangerous. It felt like a big, big mountain to climb."

The Batman is currently one of the most appreciated names in the world of superhero movies. The film aims to tell the story of Batman in his second year of activity, when he is still in the transition between a masked vigilante looking for revenge and a hero who fights for justice.
The production of the film aims to create an entire narrative universe on multiple platforms, called the Batverse. A TV spinoff for HBO Max dedicated to the Gotham Police Department and another spinoff centered on the Penguin are also in development.
