The Director Of The Batman Talks About A Crossover With The Joker Film

Matt Reeves, the director of Batman, talks about whether he still considered doing a connection with the 2019 film Joker. The Batman is officially going to hit theaters after years of frenzied expectation. The cast includes Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne and goes further into his investigative side than any prior Batman picture. In this version, Bruce is in his second year as Batman and is caught up in a cat-and-mouse chase with the Riddler (Paul Dano), who has been murdering affluent individuals of Gotham City. Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, and John Turturro are among the cast members of The Batman.nullEven though their creative teams are so different, The Batman and the popular DC picture Joker have a lot in common. Todd Phillips directed the film, which stars Joaquin Phoenix as a fresh, more grounded take on the legendary Batman adversary. Both The Joker and The Batman live in worlds independent from the interconnected DCEU, and they have a harsh, realistic look that is rare in today's age of superhero dominance. As a result, many viewers have assumed that The Batman and The Joker share the same universe, or that Phoenix may one day play the role of Pattinson's Joker. Reeves, for one, never saw his DC picture having anything to do with the Joker. When asked if he'd ever thought about having The Batman crossover with the 2019 film, Reeves said no. It seems that when he originally started working on his picture, he had no idea who the Joker was. According to Reeves:
null"I was finishing the Planet of the Apes movies when I first came on board, in 2017. It's been five years in the making. When I was working on the script and got deep into the script, Joker hadn't come out yet. I didn't know what Joker was or what it was going to be. I became aware of it once we were very deep into the film, and the fact that they were grounding things in a way that was reminiscent of things that we were doing, that wasn't planned. Joker was always meant to be a very specific standalone that Joaquin Phoenix, and Todd Phillips were doing. There was never really any discussion of crossover."
nullAs a result, it appears that viewers may anticipate The Batman and The Joker to stay in their respective terrifying worlds. With several offshoot ventures, the Batman is fast growing its own universe, and it is quite possible that it will get its own Joker at some point. However, rather than combining his franchise with Joker, Reeves may choose to have someone else play the part. People have already come up with some fantastic suggestions for who might play Pattinson's Joker, with Willem Dafoe and Barry Keoghan (who is really in The Batman) being two of the most popular choices.nullMeanwhile, there have been a few rumors that a Joker sequel is in the process. Phillips was supposed to write the script as of May 2021, but there have been minimal updates since then. Even if it makes it to execution, it would be weird to have Phoenix's Joker recognize Batman, whether he is played by Pattinson or not. Though their styles may complement one another, it's definitely best if The Batman and The Joker stay apart.
