The Largest-Recorded Fossilized Human Turd Ever Found Will Blow Your Mind

You may not be able to stomach this colossal dollop of dung.
More commonly known as the Lloyds Bank coprolite (formal for fossilized turd), this massive, “precious” dollop of dung dates back 1,200 years ago, believed to be the biggest ever discovered.

Archaeologists found this piece in 1972 in York, UK, in an area once ruled by the Vikings. They discovered the 8-inch-long and 2-inch-wide specimen beneath the site that would be succeeded by a local bank branch, which also inspired the turd’s name – Lloyds Bank.
At 8 inches long and 2 inches wide, the specimen was discovered in York, in the United Kingdom, in 1972 in an area once ruled by Norse warriors. It was found beneath what would later become a local bank branch, according to Atlas Obscura. The dung takes its name from the institution — Lloyds Bank.
The massive dollop of dung enjoyed another red-letter moment in 1991 when a poo scientist, Dr. Andrew Jones, assessed the piece in the name of insurance. He said, “This is the most exciting piece of excrement I’ve ever seen. In its own way, it’s as irreplaceable as the Crown Jewels.”
Paleoscatologists, experts in the study of poo, have been capable of discerning to extract a lot of information from the girthy deposit after conducting thorough analysis.

One includes that its manufacturer, who consumed mainly meat and bread, was a Norse warrior, active around 9th century AD with a gut full of parasites, leading to the log, upon its discovery, was infested with Whipworm and Maw-worm eggs, indicating that the Viking frequently had disturbed digestion and other gastrointestinal problems.
In present day, the manure lies peacefully inside a glass box at the Jorvik Viking Centre where visitors dropped it
Today, the log resides in a glass box at the Jorvik Viking Centre where, in 2003, visitors dropped it, breaking it into three pieces. Luckily, experts were able to repair the poo. The Centre is proud to call itself the turd’s final resting place, even hosting a virtual workshop in February called “Poo Day!” — in which fans learned about the dung’s significance.
“If you want to make your very own Viking poo during the livestream (adult supervision is strongly recommended!), you’ll need a few ingredients to hand. We’ll go through the ‘method’ during the livestream!” the Centre advertised at the time.
