Brittany Charboneau - The First Woman To Set A Record At The Walt Disney World Marathon

On 9 January 2022, a 33-year-old woman from Denver broke the Walt Disney World marathon record by winning all four races in a row. Completing Disney's Dopey Challenge with the 5K, 10K, half marathon, and full marathon (a total of 48.6 miles) on consecutive days is an incredible achievement. But Brittany Charboneau went much farther, winning all four races in the women's class to become the first woman to sweep the event in its 29-year history.

“This is so special. I mean, it’s once in a lifetime. I won’t get this ever again,’’ Charboneau said. “Honestly, I will treasure this forever. This is going to go down as one of the biggest highlights ever.’’
Despite running 5.1 miles on Thursday, 6.2 miles on Friday, and 13.1 miles on Saturday, Charboneau finished well ahead of second-place runner Giovanna Martins who had only completed the marathon. Early in the race, Charboneau trailed the leaders before stepping up the pace and pulling away from the field down the stretch. Her time of 2:45:15 was about five minutes quicker than Martins (2:48.16) and nearly three minutes faster than Megan Curham (2:50:11).

It was her meaningful record-setting run at Walt Disney World Resort because Charboneau is a great Disney fan. For each of her four races this weekend, she dressed up as a different Disney character. Elsa from "Frozen" for the 5K, Bing Bong from "Inside Out" for the 10K, Joy from "Inside Out" for the half marathon, and Cruella de Vil from "101 Dalmatians" for the marathon. She also planned to spend Monday visiting Disney's theme parks as part of the resort's 50th-anniversary celebration.Vanilson Neves of Sao Paulo, Brazil, was the overall winner of the marathon with a time of 2:30:37. Second place went to David Gramlich (2:40:31), and third place went to Mathieu Frechette (2:42:24).

The Disney Marathon Weekend was the second and final race weekend of the run Disney racing season, and the series' marquee event, which is one of the park's largest and most popular. The Princess Half Marathon Weekend (Feb. 24-27, 2022) comes next, followed by the Springtime Surprise Weekend (Feb. 24-27, 2023). (March 31-April 3).
