Many well-known actors, comedians, and performers have lost a spouse to suicide. There is evidence that substance abuse contributed to the deaths of at least some of these famous people's marriages, while despair was a major factor in the deaths of others.
Sadly, some well-known men have lost spouses to suicide. Brynn Hartman murdered her husband, Phil, on May 28, 1998. Toward the end of the day, she decided to end her own life. Two children were orphaned when the Hartmans perished. Jackson Browne's wife Phyllis Major died of a barbiturate overdose in 1976. He memorialized her passing in the song "Sleep's Dark and Silent Gate."
