“My underwater collection is inspired by the exploration of feelings of peace and calm, combined with the energy from the motion of the waves that you feel while submerged.”

Californian artist - Isabel Emrich - has painted extremely colorful depictions of women immersed in the blue water. Each of these colorful oil paintings captures peaceful moments underwater, when the subject is in a floating position, welcoming the dancing sunlight that casts a wonderful luminescence upon the water.

Emrich's fascination with water began as she grew up in Southern California. Her grandmother would often take her to the cliffs on the beach, where they would enjoy the ocean views and underwater wonders together, just like what the old French Impressionists did in the past. Her grandmother's simple but complex advice was: "Draw what you see only".

Emrich describes her work as "a style of Expression that embraces both the abstract and the figurative." Inspired by the work of late Expressionism painters like Van Gogh, her underwater paintings are rendered with energetic brush strokes in a vibrant palette. These color layers simulate the texture of water, capturing sparkles and ripples reflected from the surface, brightening the subject's skin.

“Indeed, being submerged in water is one of the most obvious examples that people can imagine of ‘living in the present.’ Time just stood still, and in that one and only moment, the past and the future seemed to disappear. Just like in Meditation, I am here now.”
