New Clue Teases An Unexpected Presence In "The Marvels"
One of the upcoming newcomers to the Marvel world may have spoiled the presence of a character very close to Thor in the awaited film The Marvels, a sequel to the acclaimed Captain Marvel of 2019.
On her Instagram, actress Zenobia Shroff - who will soon make her debut in the Ms. Marvel series as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel's mother Muneeba - has released a video recap of the series' 2021 staff. However, towards the end of the video, at 1:08, you can see an image taken during the production of The Marvels. On one wall it is possible to see a lineup of close-up photographs and, as noted by a Twitter user, one of these seems to be a portrait of Tessa Thompson - the actress who plays Valkyrie in the MCU.
The video was removed from Instagram shortly afterward, but you can see the screenshots below:
As fans already know, Captain Marvel made her cinematic debut in the same-name movie set in 1995 when she split from the Kree and antagonized her mentor Yon-Rogg. Directed by Anna Bowden and Ryan Fleck, it arrived on the big screen in March 2019 and grossed $1.13 billion at the global box office. The heroine also appeared with a reduced but decisive role in Avengers: Endgame, set in 2023.
Captain Marvel's sequel - The Marvels was directed by Nia Da Costa with a screenplay written by Megan McDonnell, former writer of Marvel hit series WandaVision. The shooting of the film ended this fall and to date we still don't know anything about the events on which the plot will focus, except that it will certainly follow the storyline of WandaVision.
Among the others, there will also be Wyatt Russell returning as U.S. Agent, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, while Lashana Lynch will reprise the role of Maria Rambeau seen in the previous Captain Marvel film. Notably, South Korean actor Park Seo-joon has recently joined the cast with a role that has yet to be revealed.
The Marvels is expected to land in theaters on February 17, 2023.
