More than 30 tornadoes swept through 6 central US states on the night of December 10, killing at least 84 people, including 6 workers at Amazon's warehouse in the town of Edwardsville, Illinois. The hurricane tore off part of the roof of a warehouse the size of a football field and caused concrete walls to collapse while workers were changing shifts.
In addition to the dead, one worker was injured and 45 people were hospitalized. Due to the incident at the time of the shift, Amazon was unable to determine how many workers were inside the building when the tornado hit, but officials believe there were no survivors inside the collapsed warehouse.
However, in the following Instagram post, the Amazon founder shared a smiling selfie with a group of passengers who had just finished a 10-minute spacewalk in West Texas. "Happy crew this morning in the training center," he posted.

This billionaire's action immediately attracted criticism on social media. "It’s really sickening if you want my honest opinion." one person commented.
"Jeff Bezos has said absolutely NOTHING on the lives lost at his facility in Illinois after a catastrophic tornado left numerous workers trapped. But sure, go play wannabe space men for 10 minutes. Unreal," tweeted Twitter user Joshua Dyer.

At 9pm on December 11, Bezos posted on Twitter expressing his heartache at the tragedy. "The news from Edwardsville is tragic. We’re heartbroken over the loss of our teammates there, and our thoughts and prayers are with their families and loved ones".
"All of Edwardsville should know that the Amazon team is committed to supporting them and will be by their side through this crisis," the post added.
Earlier, Amazon spokesman Richard Roche said in a statement that "this is a devastating tragedy for our Amazon family and our focus is on supporting our employees and partners."
