5 Disney Princesses Who Aren't Orphans

When it comes to animated movies, the first name that comes to mind is Walt Disney Pictures. And while the studio has produced a wide range of films, both animated and live-action, it is most known for its animated adventures. However, within Disney, there is a particular franchise that houses an exclusive group of characters from the Mouse House's most popular animated films: the Disney Princess franchise.
The studio's very first animated extended feature, Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs was the first to enter this select group. The Disney Princess franchise has evolved throughout the years, but not every female protagonist may be a member of it due to certain restrictions. The princesses in the franchise have some characteristics, such as being born royal or marrying into royalty (or, in Mulan's case, executing a heroic act), possessing an animal, and performing at least one musical number. Another, more enigmatic feature that most princesses have is that they are orphans or do not have a mother.
While most princesses share this unique characteristic, not all are the same. Many other people have both parents, and in some circumstances, they play a role in their story. Here are 5 Disney princesses who aren't orphans, read to the end to see how many you know!

#1 Moana from Moana

Moana, the daughter of Motunui's chief Tui and Sina, is the newest addition to the Disney Princess franchise. Moana's parents, unlike previous princesses, do not play a big role in the plot, although they are present throughout her trip. After going through a dangerous adventure to save her island, she returned home with her parents at the end of Moana, becoming the island's chief.

#2 Merida from Brave

Merida, the heroine of Brave, is the daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor, and the older sister of the triplets Harris, Hubert, and Hamish. Merida's connection with her mother is essential to the plot, as she refused to be forced into marriage and instead gave her mother an enchanted cake, which subsequently transforms her mother into a bear. Of course, this being a Disney film, Merida eventually recognized her faults and reconciled with her mother just in time for her to revert to her human form.

#3 Rapunzel from Tangled

Rapunzel was the second Disney Princess to have both parents alive for the duration of the film, though, like Aurora, she didn't get to spend much time with them. Rapunzel finally learned the truth and faced Mother Gothel, but Eugene chopped her hair before she could heal him, revealing the true age and look of Mother Gothel and forcing her to vanish. Eugene was healed by one of Rapunzel's tears, and he assisted her in reuniting with her parents.

#4 Mulan from Mulan

Mulan was also accompanied by both of her parents throughout the film. Her father was the reason for her entire adventure because he was the sole guy in their family and was recruited in the army. Mulan chose to pose as a man to take his place in the fight because she was concerned about his health, so her parents stayed at home while she fought for her nation. She had returned home to her parents by the end of Mulan.

#5 Aurora from Sleeping Beauty

Aurora from Sleeping Beauty was the third Disney Princess to join the franchise and the first to have both parents alive and well. Her parents decided to move her to a cottage to live with the three good fairies after her being cursed in order to keep her safe, but she eventually succumbed to the curse. Aurora, now curse-free thanks to the help of the Prince, was reunited with her parents by the end of the movie.
