A senior cat entered the public shelter after losing his forever home.

Five years ago, an 18-year-old cat was rescued from a public shelter by Purrfect Pals Cat Sanctuary and Adoption Centers in Arlington, Washington, so he could have a chance at a better life. His name is Sammy, and the tuxedo was surrendered to the shelter when his owner could no longer keep him.

The kind senior displayed amazing tenacity and quickly won the admiration of staff and volunteers. "He is a classy little pocket kitty, wearing a spiffy tuxedo coat with white mittens," Purrfect Pals said. "As befits his age, he's a mellow guy, adept at handling whatever life brings his way."

The rescue team started looking for the ideal house for the deserving senior. In his later years, he needed a place where he could feel secure and at ease while lounging around, sleeping, or cuddling. "Cats like him belong in homes with people to call their own, sunshine to warm their bones, and soft places to lay their heads," Purrfect Pal added. "No shelter comes close to being that home."

But then his human finally appeared.

The story of Sammy captivated Tim Adams, who already owned a senior cat, and he fell in love right away. "I know that people don't generally want to adopt senior pets. I decided to go see him," Tim shared with Love Meow.
When he arrived, Sammy was alone and acting a little dejected at the adoption center. Surprisingly, the tuxedo brightened, and began to like Sammy when he approached him. "Sammy rubbed his face on my hands over and over. He bonded with me right away," Tim said. "I knew I would be taking him home."

At 18 years old, the tuxedo came with some chronic medical issues.

The health condition required the kitten to be on a specific diet, but that didn't deter Tim at all, whose own cat had the same special needs.

Sammy moved into his new residence and said goodbye to the life of the shelter. He clung to his human father for the first few days, following him around the house. Whenever he had the chance, he would curl up on his lap or embrace him.

Sammy became accustomed to napping on Tim's lap and would often wake up with him in the morning. The tuxedo has a distinctive purr that resembles a blend of chirps and purrs. When someone rubs his chin, he immediately turns on his purr motor and begins to rumble around in pure bliss.

Sammy doesn't speak much, but with his endearing silent meow, he sure knows how to melt people's hearts. Nothing brings him greater joy than spending time alone with his father. Tim said of him, "He is kind, patient, and super affectionate."

"His favorite things to do are lay in the sun or lay in my lap." He also shared.
