16 Worst Disney Animated Movies Of All Time According To IMDb

Founded by Walt and Roy O. Disney in 1923, the Walt Disney Company is the longest-running animation studio in the world. The studio released its first animated movie in 1937 with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Though often associated with high-quality animation and exciting stories, not all of Disney's movies have received good critics. Here is the list of 16 worst Disney animated movies that make even the most die-hard fans look elsewhere.

#1. The Wild (2006) - 5.2

Banking off the massive success of Madagascar, Disney produced The Wild, which tracked the adventures of a lion, Ryan, from the New York Zoo, who was unintentionally shipped to Africa. His father and pals then work to take Ryan back to New York. The Wild's plot is way too close to Madagascar's. Thus, the movie failed to reach the commercial success it was looking for.

#2. The Jungle Book 2 (2003) - 5.3

The Jungle Book 2 has too many plot and animation parallels to the franchise’s original film. Ultimately, the movie feels like a clumsy copy-paste that fails to represent the original’s beauty and poignancy.

#3. Home on the Range (2004) – 5.4

The story is about three cows Maggie, Grace, and Mrs. Caloway begin a quest, along with the sheriff’s horse, to capture the notorious thief Slim and collect the ransom. Compared to other 90s animated films, the movie comes ahead thanks to beautiful animation and catchy songs. However, when compared to Disney, it's a travesty, with flat characters, and too many cow jokes.

#4. Strange World (2022) – 5.5

Strange World failed to connect with audiences despite its interesting trailer and impressive voice cast, which included actors like Jake Gyllenhaal and Lucy Liu. The movie takes place in the lively world of Avalonia, home to the famous Clades family of adventurers. They soon find themselves collaborating to travel to a mysterious area beneath their world, which contains weird lifeforms and a resource they want to maintain in their everyday lives.

#5. Valiant (2005) - 5.5

Valiant depicts the titular pigeon, which assisted in delivering encoded messages across the English Channel in 1944, at the height of World War II. Valiant's story and setting provide for some breathtaking air combats, but they also conflict with the animated style of the movie.

#6. Olaf's Frozen Adventure (2017) – 5.6

Olaf's Frozen Adventure is an animated musical film that is a spin-off of the hit 2013 film Frozen. The film is regarded as pleasant and enjoyable. However, some viewers thought the film's duration was excessive for a short film, detracting from the overall viewing experience.

#7. Chicken Little (2005) – 5.7

When a piece of sky falls on the head of Chicken Little, no one trusts him. However, his pals believe him and together they save the world from ending. And Little's father even put his own son in danger in order to save his face. Chicken Little is perhaps Disney's most mean-spirited film up to now, and still rightly regarded as one of the worst Disney animated movies of all time.

#8. Planes (2013) - 5.7

Planes, a spinoff of the Cars franchise, portrays the world of the titular talking aerial vehicles. Even for those who may find this setup intriguing, there isn't much plot to Planes, and the movie is as lazily low-stakes and low-budget as it comes.

#9. Cars 2 (2011) - 6.2

In contrast to the original Cars, Cars 2 opted to throw Lighting McQueen and his tow-truck friend Mater into a ridiculous story of international espionage. While the sequel maintained the top-notch visuals Pixar is known for, its tangled script left audiences wanting more.

#10. The Black Cauldron (1985) – 6.3

This spooky Disney animation was the one that nearly put an end to Disney animation in 1985. Despite having some cult classic status, it has been cut by twelve minutes, which results in an excessively dark tone, a generic plot, and an unfocused story.

#11. An Extremely Goofy Movie (2000) – 6.3

An Extremely Goofy Movie, the follow-up to the 1995 film A Goofy Movie, features characters that fans know and love. The movie has been widely criticized for not being as powerful as the original Goofy Movie. It did not live up to the characters and the franchise's potential.

#12. The Three Caballeros (1944) – 6.3

When it comes to content, The Three Caballeros is a real mess. The movie overstays its welcome and quickly loses focus of its story, with the third act divulging into Donald trying to make out with human ladies and a weird sequence involving dancing cacti.

#13. Dinosaur (2000) – 6.4

Disney's first computer-generated film is about dinosaurs and tells the story of Aladar, an iguanodon whose egg was taken far from his nest and adopted by a family of lemurs. However, the film relies on anachronistic jokes and tells a poor story that leaves audiences wanting more.

#14. Oliver & Company (1988) – 6.6

An orphaned cat named Oliver living in New York City is taken in by a group of street dogs. He tries to help them steal for their master, so he can pay off a loanshark but gets taken in by a lonely rich girl. Despite its good music and good visuals for New York City, it doesn't offer anything new and under-utilizes the animal characters.

#15. Pocahontas (1995) – 6.7

Pocahontas has been criticized for cultural misrepresentations, historical inaccuracy, and its romanticization of colonialism. The film takes substantial liberties with the true narrative of Pocahontas and does not adequately reflect Native American history or culture.

#16. Brother Bear (2003) - 6.8

Brother Bear failed to meet the expectation of the audience. Though Brother Bear contains all of Disney's signature elements, the movie's animation is severely lacking compared to what came before it. Similarly, the plot itself seemed undercooked and lacked the depth of better Disney releases.
