WHAT HAPPENED?
The USMNT had to win on Tuesday to advance to the last 16 World Cup, making Pulisic’s goal crucial. But there was silence rather than celebration after the goal as the medical staff surrounded Pulisic.
After 38 minutes, Weston McKennie noticed Sergino Dest darting into the box with a tire pass overhead. Dest quickly headed the ball across the goal, where Pulisic rushed to catch the ball and coolly put the Americans ahead 1-0. Amidst the celebrations, however, one thing was missing – Pulisic himself.
The 24-year-old star lay painfully in front of goal while clutching his abs. He was treated on the pitch and struggled to leave the pitch with the coaches, obviously in great pain. He appeared to have taken a heavy blow from Iran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand during the game, colliding as he darted towards goal.
