30 Dark Humor Illustrations From "Square Comics" To Boost Your Mood
In the comic universe, “The Square Comics” may be a perfect example of comics that don't have excellent graphic style but still earn a lot of fans just by a touch of humor. Are you curious about the mastermind behind the comics circulating on the internet recently? So, keep reading to explore together.
The father of “The Square Comics” is Alvin Juano, an artist from Jakarta, Indonesia, who has an incredibly clever and unbelievably dark mind. Although his comics are simple and minimalistic, they convey their message really well and take people through a range of emotions in just 3 or 4 frames. Alvin’s illustrations mix an incredible amount of both intelligent and dark humor, which probably becomes the artist's trademark. Of course, the comics stand out from other popular webcomics (such as Shen comics, Sarah Anderson comics, or Catana comics) with 610,000 followers on Instagram.
In a recent interview, the author told: "I started The Square Comics in 2014...I was doing so badly at school that I was almost kicked out of the course. It was one of the lowest periods of my life and I needed something to get out of the funk. Creating funny drawings was it." Like others, Alvin also gets inspiration from another artist, who is Ricky Gervais. To him, artist Ricky's honest, unfiltered, and sarcastic comics conquered him. When this man grows up, Doraemon & Crayon Shin-Chan, Cyanide & Happiness, Safely Endangered, and War and Peas are the funniest cartoons he likes best.
When it comes to his creative process, Alvin reveals that he has a preferred method. "Usually before I sleep, I’d try to think of things that could be funny and write it on a notebook/phone," he described. "The next day, I’ll pick out the ones that I find interesting and work on it." He tried to follow that process, but sometimes he thinks good ideas come at random times.
