11 Things We Learned From Loki Season 2 Official Trailer: New Villain, Ke Huy Quan, And More
If there is a poll to vote about the most charming and well-liked villain in the MCU history, the charismatic God of Mischief Loki, step-brother of Thor, will surely take the top spot. Tom Hiddleston’s performance as the iconic Asgardian is brilliant, and clearly Marvel Studios have a long-term plan for Loki in the future as well, having resurrected him from the brink of death many times in the past, and giving him his own TV series in 2021 which introduced to us the Multiverse and various timelines.
And just yesterday, the new official trailer for the much-anticipated sequel series has been released by the studio, giving us a much clearer view of Loki’s next adventure in the TVA to explore the Multiverse. The trailer features the return of familiar faces in the first series such as Mobius and Ravonna Renslayer, while also introducing some new intriguing characters starred by Ke Huy Quan, and especially, a new villain. Here are the 11 most important pieces of information about Loki season 2, and we’ll dive into it right away.
#1. Ke Huy Quan’s first look as the new character in the series.
Widely known for his Academy Award-winning role in the critically acclaimed Everything Everywhere All at Once, Ke Huy Quan got every Marvel fan on their feet as he was included in Loki season 2 cast as a TVA archivist. In the new official trailer, his identity in the sequel is revealed to be OB, short for Ouroboros, and fans can see the talented actor in the TVA uniforms. Ouroboros has a brief meeting with Loki and Mobius in his workshop, before seemingly joining the two on their mission across the Multiverse.
#2. Loki’s glitch.
In the new trailer, we’ve found another glitch in the matrix, as our God of Mischief keeps experiencing a quite gruesome glitch called time-slipping, which sees him warping simultaneously into different times and places. This rather bizarre phenomenon is quite similar to Miles Morales’s glitching in the Spider-Verse franchise, as both series tackles the concept of the Multiverse. The condition clearly causes Loki some discomfort, and OB, while can recognize it firsthand, doesn’t know how to fix it.
The cause for the glitch is unknown, but many believe this occurs due to the protagonist’s last encounter with He Who Remains, who dies in the first season. Also according to OB, time-slipping is impossible for anyone in the TVA office, but Loki manages to do so time and time again.
#3. He Who Remains’ Citadel.
The trailer suggests that Loki and his group will likely return to He Who Remains’ Citadel at the End of Time, where he and Sylvia successfully defeated the Kang variant last time. In the trailer, the Citadel is now a crumbling version of its former self, with the vast multiverse looming behind. The Citadel might still have an important role in season 2, as it might hold the key to cure Loki’s glitch.
#4. Season 2 will take place in the early 1900s.
To cure Loki’s time-slipping glitch, Mobius sends him to the early 20th Century, where the extravagant Roaring Twenties era takes place. One of the iconic landmarks they go to includes the Midway Plaisance, a theme park in South Chicago. This timeline is likely the place where both Mobius and Loki encounter the variant Victor Timely in Quantumania’s post-credit scene.
#5. Jonathan Majors returns as a Kang variant.
Despite his controversial assault allegations recently, Majors still appears in the trailer as Victor Timely, a Kang variant who already made his MCU debut in An-man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s post-credit scene. And judging from the way he presents himself in the trailer, we can see that Victor will have a rather crucial role in the story.
In Marvel Comics, this version of Kang travels back in time to the early 1990s, attempting to further progress the world’s technology back then in the town of Timely, Wisconsin. He takes on the title of Victor Timely, and his ultimate goal is to conquer the Earth from the shadows using the technology he has in hand. Loki season 2 will probably follow this storyline, with the protagonist and Mobius trying to stop the villain’s evil scheme.
#6. The Council of Kang’s mural.
This particular painting appears in a fraction of a second in the trailer, which features multiple Kang variants fighting in their classic comic suits. This might be a hint at the upcoming multiversal war between the Kang variants and the Avengers in the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in Phase 6, as An-man and the Wasp: Quantumania has already teased these variants in the after-credit.
#7. Victor Timely won’t be the only villain in the series.
As Loki and Mobius travel back in time, we can see a poster in front of a crowded theater in the early 1900s with the title Zaniac on it. In Marvel Comics, Zaniac is a fearsome being from the Dark Dimension like Dormammu, who can possess humans at will, and drive them to kill women with extreme bloodlust.
In the trailer, the appearance of the entity isn’t teased, but its unique nature will prove to be a hard test for Loki and Mobius to handle.
#8. Loki season 2 will feature even more variants.
Since season 2 is expected to delve even further into the Multiverse than the sophomore series, fans believed even more variants of old and new characters will be introduced, and they were right. From multiple versions of Loki and Sylvie, Ravonna Renslayer, Hunter B-15 and Casey also have different variants of their own in the trailer.
#9. Renslayer approaches the void.
Judging from the trailer, we can expect that the TVA judge Ravonna Renslayer will have an even more integral role in Loki season 2, with more of her variants roaming around the timelines. One of them is seemingly trapped in the Void, the place things go to after being pruned by the TVA, and then gets eaten up by Alioth, He Who Remains’ guard. The scene might imply that Renslayer is looking for He Who Remains, or his other Kang variants, since the former is already killed by Sylvie in the first series.
#10. Miss Minutes is a Ghost?
Miss Minutes, voiced by Tara Strong, is the TVA sentient clock mascot who has a big role in the first season. In the new trailer, however, Miss Minutes appears in the shape of a Pac-Man-like ghost, though still retains some of her distinguishing features. This may imply that Miss Minutes has died off somewhere between seasons 1 and 2, or this is just some other version of her.
#11. Loki season 2’s official release date.
The second season of the God of Mischief will premiere on Disney+ on October 6, 2023, and is a crucial part of the MCU Phase 5. You can also watch the first season on the same platform.
