5 Potential Teams Argentina May Face In Knock-Out Stage

Throughout his career, Messi has participated in four different World Cups. Messi will have one final opportunity to lead Argentina to victory at the World Cup in 2022. 2014 was the most recent year in which Argentina came very close to winning it. Unfortunately, Messi's team fell short against Germany in the championship match. On the other hand, the Argentinians are well prepared and in good shape for this competition.
They are currently undefeated in all 36 matches and just won the Copa America this past year. Alongside Brazil, Argentina is considered one of the favorites to win the World Cup in 2022. In preparation for the World Cup in 2022, let's look at Argentina's five potential opponents in the knockout stage.

1. France (Round of 16)

Argentina will play France in the round of 16 if they win their group. However, as recently as the 2018 World Cup, this resulted in Argentina's elimination. It was a nail-biter, but Deschamps' France eventually prevailed 4-3 over Argentina. Nonetheless, I think Argentina can beat France this time around. Even though France is in decent shape right now, they are missing several key players, and Argentina is in fine form.
It looks like Karim Benzema, Nkunku, Kante, and Paul Pogba won't make it to the World Cup. If Benzema and, more importantly, Kante had been on the field, they could have helped defeat Argentina. However, France's depth in the roster should allow them to beat Argentina despite the absence of a few key players. After his performance against Argentina, Kylian Mbappe has proven to be a player to keep an eye on.

2. Denmark (Round Of 16)

Despite being one of the tournament underdogs, Denmark appears to be a fairly easy matchup for Argentina. With their performance at Euro 2020, Denmark proved they are no ordinary team. They advanced to the final four but lost to England. They advanced to the semi-finals with victories over Wales (4-0) and the Czech Republic (2-1). Denmark recently won nine out of ten matches without mercy in World Cup Qualifying. In the news, these days are names like Damsgaard, Poulsen, Kjaer, and Delaney.

3. Netherlands (Quarter-Final)

If Argentina makes it to the quarterfinals, they will play the Netherlands. This is predicated on the belief that the Netherlands will emerge victorious from their group. Even Louis Van Gaal's team is performing well. The Dutch haven't lost in 15 games in a row. More importantly, they started their World Cup campaign with a 2-0 victory over Senegal. Should they emerge victorious from their group, the Netherlands would advance to face the United States.

4. Germany (Semi-Final)

A match like this would go down in lore. For sure, Messi and Argentina would want to get back at Germany for their loss to them. Although it wouldn't be as satisfying as beating Germany in the final, Argentina would still take great pride in eliminating them. For this match to occur, Germany must eliminate Spain in the quarterfinals.
On the other hand, Germany's roster has seen significant changes since 2014. 2014's World Cup champions boast a roster full of up-and-coming stars. The addition of Hansi Flick is a huge plus, but it will take some time for the team to adjust to his playing style. Germans like Sane, Gnabry, Muller, and even Gotze ensure an exciting contest.

5. Brazil (Semi-Final)

Argentina is one of the favorites to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but Brazil is also a strong contender. It wouldn't be shocking if Brazil beat Argentina as well. Brazil hasn't tasted defeat in 15 games since losing to Argentina in the Copa America final. Three times in the last four World Cups, Brazil has been eliminated in the quarterfinals.
When Brazil plays, Neymar, their star player, is crucial. The PSG star is in terrific shape and will be one of Brazil's most important players at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. If Argentina and Brazil meet in the semi-finals, Neymar and Messi will undoubtedly play key roles in Argentina's victory. If this happens at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, it will be one of the tournament's most exciting games.
