10 Times Actors Starred In A Movie But Had All Or Most Of Their Scenes Deleted

Imagine pouring your heart and soul into a role, only to find out later on that most of your part didn’t make it to the final version of the movie. These actors are examples of that. They starred in a movie but then had most of their scenes deleted. It’s nothing new for Hollywood producers to use names to promote their films, but in these cases, they just take it a little too far.
The anticipation for the actors to show up skyrocketed when the cast was announced only to plummet when the fans discovered that their favorite stars were barely in the movie at all. Some actors even have all their scenes deleted, which makes them look like they don’t even star in the movie in the first place. So let’s take a look at these unlucky folks and what scenes were cut.

1. Katherine Langford – Avengers: Endgame

The original script of Avengers: Endgame has a scene that Tony snapped his fingers and met the grown-up version of his daughter in the metaphysical limbo. Katherine Langford was supposed to be the older version of Tony's daughter. The scene never makes it into the big screen.
Katherine was pretty chill with having her scenes deleted from one of the highest-grossing films of all time though. The actress said that she didn't want to be in the scene that stuck out "like a saw thumb" and only wanted what was best for the movie.

2. Kiki Layne – Don't Worry Darling

Kiki Layne was supposed to be the catalyst for Florence Pugh's character's suspicions rising in Don't Worry Darling. Her character was the one who started the whole conflict in the movie. With such an important role like that, you would think she appeared a lot. But the truth was the total opposite. She was barely in the movie at all!
Kiki confirmed in an Instagram post that she and Ari'el Stachel's scenes were mostly cut from the movie. However, the actress had no hard feelings about this, only a little disappointment.

3. Tobey Maguire – Life of Pi

Tobey Maguire’s fame is what makes all of his scenes deleted from Life of Pi. He was originally cast as the writer who interviewed Pi in the future. However, upon reviewing his scenes, the director thought his stardom was too much for his role and it was taking attention away from the story.
So they deleted all of Tobey’s scenes and reshoot with Rafe Spall instead.

4. Harrison Ford – E.T

Another star who got all of his scenes deleted because he was too famous was Harrison Ford. He was dating a screenwriter on the movie E.T at that time, and he worked with Steven Spielberg a year earlier, so he agreed to cameo as Elliot's principal.
However, the crew was afraid that a star as huge as Harrison would distract the audience from the narrative. His scenes were eventually cut from the movie.

5. Jena Malone – Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice

When Jena Malone showed up on the set of Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, the fans were feverishly debating which character would she play. Some said Batgirl, some speculated Robin, and some thought of other DC universe characters. In the end, she played an unimportant character named Jenet Klyburn. Her scenes could only make it into the director's cut.

6. Tim Roth – Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood

Tim Roth was supposed to play Jay Sebring's British butler. He could have been a character that Tarantino described as a “British gentleman's gentleman." In the end, Roth’s character never made it into the final edit. You will have to wait for the four-hour version of the movie, which will be released on Netflix, to watch Roth's scenes.

7. Michelle Monaghan – Constantine

In the original script of Constantine, Michelle Monaghan played the love interest of the main character. However, the director thought Constantine worked better alone, so they cut off her character.
What’s worse is that they call her back and shoot some scenes for the movie with her, only to delete those scenes too. The only scene that makes it to the final version is the sprinkler scene, which is the moment Michelle hates the most.

8. Uma Thurman – Savages

Uma Thurman was supposed to be playing the mother of Blake Lively’s character in Savages. However, Oliver Stone didn’t think she would fit in his adaptation movie so he had to delete all of her scenes. It was a tough decision to make as she was one of the film's biggest stars.

9. Paul Rudd – Bridesmaids

Another director that had to make a tough decision like that was Paul Feig. In his movie Bridesmaids, Paul Rudd played the role of a seemingly perfect blind date for Annie before he revealed his bad sides. However, the film was getting way too long and it already had a love triangle, so the blind date had to be deleted. Paul Feig described cutting Rudd's scenes from the movie as "that terrible moment when you have to kill your babies."

10. Robert Pattinson – Vanity Fair

Although he was cut from the 2004 movie Vanity Fair, Robert Pattinson might feel lucky after this disappointment. He played the son of Reese Witherspoon's character in the movie. Pattinson had no idea that his scenes had been deleted until he went to the screening and saw the movie.
However, the casting director felt so guilty that she gave him the first run at the part in Harry Potter. He nailed the role of Cedric Diggory and started his way to becoming a famous actor since then.
On the contrary with these actors who have most or all of their scenes deleted from their movies, some actors get paid a ton of money for just a little bit of work. Their payments for only a few minutes of screen time are insane. We know that time is money but isn’t this a little too much?
