10 Overpowered Abilities Of The Flash We Didn’t Get To See In The DCEU
Among Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern, The Flash is one of DC Comics' most iconic superheroes ever with the most complex and intriguing plotline, so many fans are surprised that the Scarlet Speedster didn’t get his own solo movie in the DCEU until this June. The titular film wasn’t much of a success either, as its box office numbers barely made it through the production budget after nearly a month of premiering. While Ezra Miller, barring his recent controversies, didn’t do a bad job portraying Barry Allen, it feels like the character was done dirty by Warner Bros, and feels like a lesser version of his comic counterpart.
In the comics, The Flash is a much more powerful superhero, whose immense abilities aren’t just limited to super-speed and going back in time. However, these other-worldly powers of his didn’t get the chance to showcase in the DCEU, as James Gunn is starting his new universe from scratch. For now, let’s take a look at The Flash’s most overpowered abilities in the comics that basically turn him into a god, and hope that one day, we’ll see them being showcased in the new DC Universe.
#1. He can actually fly like Superman.
Yes, The Flash can fly, he just doesn’t want to. However, in Barry Allen’s case, flying just means he runs fast enough to make his body levitate in the air, by either swinging his limbs rapidly, or simply just spinning his body like a drill at an extreme speed.
#2. He can self-regenerate using lightning.
Regeneration and rejuvenation abilities are quite common in DC Comics, but to heal using lightning, and at such a ridiculous speed, is quite unheard of. However, The Flash, Wally West, in particular, can display this power with ease. With a strike of lightning using the Speedforce, he can heal allies and himself at an exponential speed, close the deep wound on Nightwing body, and can even bring a fatally injured Poison Ivy back to life. Who needs a doctor when you have The Flash around?
#3. He’s almost immune to psychic attacks.
As we all know, The Flash can move at inhuman speed that can even traverse both time and space, so it’s only natural for his brain to operate at the same level of velocity. In fact, his thought pattern is so rapid, it makes him immune to almost every kind of telepathy and psychic attacks, including mind-reading and mind-control. Of course, some elite telepaths like Martian Manhunter or Gorilla Grodd can still do some damage to Barry, but only to a limited extent.
#4. He can phase through physical matters.
When moving fast enough, The Flash can vibrate at a high enough speed that enables him to easily phase through walls and physical objects, and even does the same with everything he touches as well. At one point in the comic, the Fastest Man Alive is even able to phase a whole plane through a bridge to avoid collisions. Due to the intense vibration, the ability also makes him invisible to the naked eye. However, The Flash must use this power with extreme caution, as it can drain a lot of energy and make things explode if not done properly.
#5. He takes speed-reading to a whole new level.
As mentioned above, since The Flash’s brain and thought process is much faster than a normal human being, it also allows him to absorb an overwhelming amount of information with little time needed. Therefore, the hero’s ability to read texts and documents, and decipher codes at an incredible speed as well, though it also comes with some limitations. A version of the Scarlet Speedster, Jay Garrick, even possesses a photographic memory, which is even more formidable when combined with his speed-reading skill. Now imagine The Flash’s speed with Bruce Wayne’s level of intellect. Now that’s scary.
#6. He can lend his speed to others.
Now we all know The Flash is ridiculously fast, but to think that he can even manipulate the speed of the people around him is downright absurd. Since Barry Allen and his family can draw strength from the speed force, they can both “lend” speed to others and “borrow” speed from them as well. The ability isn’t limited to human, either, as The Flash can also give and draw speed from different objects as well, so he can both renders weapons and projectiles useless, while giving some other super speed that can even rival his own.
#7. If The Flash tries, his speech is indecipherable.
This is one of the more comedic powers of The Flash. When in the speed force, since his mind and thought process is so fast, the Scarlet Speedster can speak at such a rapid pace, that to normal human beings it just sounds like random indecipherable blabbering that only Eminem can rival. Of course, any person who enters the speed force can share the same level of speed speaking as well.
#8. No need to worry about accidents with the Speed Force Aura.
It’s great to have super speed, to crash somewhere while moving at such a ridiculous pace is no pleasant feeling. Luckily, The Flash doesn’t have to worry about this particular problem, as he’s already protected by the Speed Force Aura, which is a protective barrier that wraps around his body while moving at full speed. The Aura helps prevent air friction from affecting the user and reduces impact to a minimum.
This aura even helps protect other people when the Fastest Man Alive brings them into the speed force, protecting them from the sudden burst of speed. In short, the Speed Force Aura serves as an airbag for The Flash to protect him from physical collision, which is a really important ability to have when you can run faster than light.
#9. He can create matters out of thin air.
Wally West, who’s widely considered the most powerful version of The Flash, can even manifest solid matters if he concentrated hard enough, with the prime example being his super suit that was created from the Speed Force itself. He can also use this ability to repair the damages on his suits and the others, and even create some extra utility pockets to hold items.
#10. He can create time clones of himself.
Comic Flash possesses some absurd abilities, but making time clones is probably the best out of them all. Bart Allen, the futuristic version of the Scarlet Speedster, can create multiple “time scouts” that have their own will and can freely move through time and space with ease. Bart utilizes this power to send multiple clones into the future and the past to rescue people and defeat villains, and even rewrite the past to his own liking without having to move a muscle himself.
The scariest thing is. The Flash can even produce a whole army of time scouts if he actually tries. By having countless versions of his clones changing and altering the timeline, Bart can earn different powerful abilities, and unfolds the history of mankind as he pleases, making him a god-like figure that even Superman must be wary of.
