Hollywood has always found new ideas to fill theater seats. Re-examining a good movie with an eye on making it better seems to be a brilliant way. It is proven that many live-action remakes of the most popular animated movie, such as 2015’s Cinderella and 2019’s The Lion King were created. In addition to Disney movies, plenty of other high-profile movie remakes were released over the years.
These movies bring a ton of fun to the audience with new experiences and the story for the first time. It’s surprising that some of them aren’t actually new stories but not many audiences know this. While some movies that come out are remakes that were released in the past, some were released in another language.

#1 Les Miserables

Victor Hugo’s popular novel, Les Miserables has been adapted multiple times for TV and cinema. When it comes to film adaptation, we immediately think of Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway. But, there was another movie produced in 1998 (non-musical) featuring Liam Neeson and Uma Thurman.

#2 The Mummy

Over the years, we’ve seen several versions of stories about the pantheon of monsters, and “The Mummy” is one of the most emblematic franchises. This plot first appeared in 1932, starring Boris Karloff. In 1999, we saw the iconic version starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.

#3 The War of the Worlds

G. Wells’s “The War of the Worlds” is a science fiction classic, based on a 1953 movie. This production starred Gene Barry and Ann Robinson. In 2005, we saw a well-remembered version, where Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning must survive the attack of aliens while sorting out their family problems.

#4 The Parent Trap

We can’t forget twins Annie and Hallie (played by Lindsay Lohan) trying to unite their parents in “The Parent Trap”. The movie is a remake of a 1961 version with sequels released in 1986 and 1989.

#5 Freaky Friday

Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis’ duo impressed the audience when they swapped roles in “Freaky Friday”. But many might not know that this film is a remake of the 1976 one, in which the roles of mother and daughter went to Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris.

#6 Hachikô monogatari

The emotional film of Richard Gere and the dog Hachikō is based on the true story of a pet waiting for 9 years at the train station for the arrival of his owner after his death. It brought tears to the audience’s eyes. We can see two versions of this story: American film and Japanese one.

We can see Elisabeth “Sisi” von Wittelsbach in different ways in history. Although Netflix's series is a huge success today, years before, the empress had a trilogy made telling her life.

#8 The Nutty Professor

With his versatility and comedic ability, Eddie Murphy made his character in “The Nutty Professor” iconic. It’s interesting that this movie is a remake of a 1963 comedy starring Jerry Lewis as an awkward and shy professor trying to solve his problems.

“Cheaper by the Dozen” portrays Steve Martin’s chaotic misadventures in organizing his life and raising his 12 children. The movie is another version of a 1950 movie, which adapted the true story of a family that raised no more and no less than a dozen children.

#10 Chicago

“Chicago” became a blockbuster in 2002, winning no less than the Oscar for Best Picture. The film is based on a play that had its first film adaptation in 1927.
