12 Most Unique-Looking Spider-Man Variants In Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse That Will Blow Your Mind

Currently hitting theaters worldwide, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the latest addition to Sony’s large collection of the Wall-Crawler’s movies. Introducing us to the vast and unorthodox Spider-Society, led by Miguel O’Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099, Across the Spider-Verse presents countless unique variants of Spider-People from different dimensions, who work together in order to keep the balance of the very Multiverse. Near the end of the movie, we see Miles fight his way through thousands of Spidey’s variants to come back and save his father from the occurrence of a canon event.

Besides the popular Spider-Man variants we already know before like Peter Parker, Spider-Man 2099, and Scarlet Spider, there are still many more unique Spider-People, who have even weirder appearances and wield exclusive superpowers that many of us might not know about. It’s time to look back at the 12 most unique Spider-Man variants in the movie, to see how creative the authors can get to bring these characters to life.

#1. Spider-Punk (Earth-138)

One of the more unorthodox Spider-Man in the movie, Spider-Punk, whose real name is Hobie Brown, also has a major role in the story, who aids Miles and Gwen a lot in battles and even opposing Miguel to help them out at the end. As his name suggests, Hobie rocks his look with a punk-like outfit, with jeans, a denim jacket, and metal spikes over his Spider suit.

Besides his normal arachnid ability, Spider-Punk also wields his favorite electric guitar in battle, causing enormous soundwaves that can destroy a kinetic barrier. In conclusion, Hobie is cool, and all my homies want to be like Hobie.

#2. Lego Spider-Man (Earth-13122)

Despite his brief screen time in Across the Spider-Verse, Lego Spider-Man still manages to capture our hearts with his adorable outlook and distinct stop-motion movement. He reports The Spot’s anomaly to Miguel and is then praised by the leader of the Spider-Society as “one of our best”, which is quite a feat, considering how many variants there are in the Multiverse. And to think his animation is made by a 14-year-old YouTuber is just mind-boggling.

#3. Spider-Cat (Earth-999)

A purr-fect addition to the squad, Spider-Cat rocks his already charming appearance with an equally adorable Spidey outfit. The arachnid-feline fusion knows how to make his entrance, attacking Miles out of nowhere with a barrage of powerful scratches with his paws, and then finishes with a web-shoot straight to the face. Besides Miguel, this is probably the variant that causes Miles the most trouble in the film.

#4. Spider-Rex (Earth-66)

When you think Spider-Cat or Spider-Ham is bizarre enough, this guy comes swinging into the scene. Yes, swinging. No kidding. Pter Ptarker is actually one of the strongest Spider-People around, who makes full use of his gigantic body in battle, and he can swing as well as any other Spidey in the society.

It’s funny how after Miles remarked how things couldn’t get any weirder, Spider-Rex comes right in to prove him wrong. Classic cartoon joke.

#5. Spider-Mobile (Earth-53931)

A cat, a dinosaur, and now a car, Across the Spider-Verse proves that Spider-Man can literally be anything. Originally a poorly-made gift from Human Torch to the Wall-Crawler, in Earth-53931, Spider-Mobile gains sentience on its own and is also known as Peter Parkedcar (I see what you did there).

Parkedcar also makes his appearance in Across the Spider-Verse, chasing down Miles Morales along with the society’s other members. For a vehicle, Spider-Mobile doesn’t get to showcase his overwhelming speed in the movie, having to carry multiple variants on his seats during the pursuit.

#6. Spider-Man 2211 (Earth-9500)

Comes from a timeline that is even more advanced than Miguel’s Nueva York, Spider-Man 2211, or Max Borne, is a TimeSpinner, a member of an organization that keeps the balance of the time field. He fights his arch-nemesis, Hogoblin with the help of Peter Parker and Spider-Man 2099, only to realize that his enemy is actually his own daughter, Robin.

In Across the Spider-Verse, though, Borne doesn’t have much chance to prove his worth besides being comedy material. Miles cleverly hides behind his back and the mechanical arms, and Borne’s big stature hinders everyone else from spotting the Earth-1610 Web-Slinger. Hopefully, he’ll get a more prominent role in Beyond the Spider-Verse, where he can showcase his ability.

#7. Web-Slinger (Earth-31913)

Originates from the Wild West of Earth-31913, his real name is Patrick O’Hara, who resembles an old-school gunslinger, but instead of shooting bullets, he shoots webs. He was bitten by a mutant Spider along with his horse Widow, and the two have taken on the moniker of Web-Slinger since.

Both of them possess spider abilities, which include super sense, strength, and durability. Patrick can even dual-wield revolvers that can shoot both webs and bullets, which makes him a formidable marksman type of superhero. In the movie, while chasing Miles, Patrick is knocked from Widow, and the former “borrows” the horse for a bit for his great escape.

#8. Spider-Byte (Earth-22191)

Margo Kess isn't really there in Nueva York, but instead controlling a physical hologram that can interact with things, from her own room back in Earth-22191. A tech genius from birth, the young girl is proficient in hacking and is responsible for sending anomalies and Spider-People back to their respective dimensions. A trusty right-hand woman of Miguel O'Hara, Miles and Gwen are lucky to have her aid them by the end.

#9. Manga-Verse Spider-Man (Earth-2301)

One of the last members of the Spider Clan, Earth-2301’s Peter Parker has undergone intense training since he was young to avenge his uncle, who was killed by Venom. Besides his arachnid abilities, this version of Peter is also a martial arts expert and is one of the few Wall-Crawlers who possess organic webbing. In Across the Spider-Verse, he is used as a launchpad for Miles to escape from his pursuers.

#10. Bombastic Bag-Man (Earth-616)

Rather than a variant, Bombastic Bag-Man is actually a Peter Parker’s unique outfit in Earth-616, which was worn during his time in the Fantastic Four. Since the original suit didn’t have a mask, Peter had to wear a paper bag on his head instead, which somehow magically stays on even when he swung across town. The Bombastic Bag-Man makes a brief appearance in Across the Spider-Verse, as one of the Spidey versions that chase after Miles Morales.

#11. Metro Boomin (Original)

If comic fans don’t remember where this variant came from, I don’t blame you, since he’s a completely original character in the movie. The character’s voice actor, Metro Boomin, is one of the composers of Across the Spider-Verse’s soundtrack, and he has a surprising cameo in the movie as well. The Spidey’s look is also based on the musician’s style in real life.

In the movie, the Metro Boomin variant drops from the ceiling, claiming that there’s nowhere for Miles to run, only for the latter to jump out of the window just moments later. It seems like Boomin is better in his music career than being a superhero.

#12. Insomniac Spider-Man (PlayStation)

One of the most anticipated Spider variants to appear in the movie, this version of Peter Parker doesn't come from the comics, but instead from the titular video game released on PlayStation by Sony back in 2018. Gameplay footage of the sequel, which is set to release this October, is also found in Ganke's room earlier in the movie.

Is there any cool Spider-Man variant missing from the list? Let us know in the comment.
