10+ Dramas of Popular TV Shows That Happened On The Set

As viewers, we often get lost in the fantasy world of our favorite TV shows and forget that behind the scenes, there's a whole lot of drama unfolding. From petty arguments to full-blown feuds, the set of a television show can be just as dramatic as the plot itself. And when it comes to nostalgic TV shows, the drama seems to be amplified.

Perhaps it's because we hold these shows so close to our hearts, or maybe it's because they were produced in a different era where workplace etiquette was different. Whatever the reason, the drama that occurred on the sets of our favorite nostalgic shows is just as intriguing as the shows themselves. In this article, we'll take a trip down memory lane and explore all the petty drama that happened on the sets of some of the most beloved TV shows of all time. Get ready to uncover some juicy behind-the-scenes secrets that you never knew existed.

Danny Tanner, Bob Saget's charming and kind father figure, comes to mind. Saget was actually known as "Dirty Daddy" because, along with Dave Coulier and John Stamos, he would frequently crack offensive jokes while filming the family-friendly series Full House.

The group received criticism from both the producers and the kid performers' parents on multiple occasions. Yikes!

#2. I Love Lucy

Despite the name of the program, I Love Lucy, Vivian Vance, and William Frawley weren't truly in love. Vance took offense at the fact that viewers thought the script, in which her character marries Frawley, to be credible since she didn't believe she would appear appropriate with "that old man."

William demanded that the script's writers include slurs about Vivian as retaliation. For instance, his remark that his wife had "a figure like a sack full of doorknobs" was included.

#3. Star Trek

On the Star Trek set, William Shatner wasn't exactly the most well-liked actor, but he did have the most authority. A provision in Shatner's contract allowed him to decide whether or not photographers might be present on set.

William objected to Leonard Nimoy's on-set photo shoot, forcing the photographer to leave because he was jealous that Leonard had more fan mail than he did. The two actors got into a fight, and Nimoy eventually finished his photo shoot, although the incident took up half a day of filming.

The conflict between Will Smith (Will) and Janet Hubert (Aunt Vivian) on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air's set is one of the most well-known production dramas in history. Due to egos, wealth, and fame, the two just couldn't get along, and Aunt Vivian was completely recast in season four as a result.

On the Fresh Prince reunion show in 2020, Smith and Hubert finally reconciled after decades of animosity. Even if the apology was kind, the harm had already been done.

#5. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

The cast and crew of Welcome Back, Kotter were forced to take sides because on-screen husband and wife Gabe Kaplan and Marcia Strassman were so bitterly opposed to one another.

By attacking Kaplan in front of the media, Strassman attempted to break her contract. While Gabe's appearances were cut in season four so the two wouldn't have to be on set together, this strategy did not relieve Marcia of her commitment to the show.

#6. Welcome Back, Kotter

After his religious beliefs changed and he felt uncomfortable with the subject of the show, Kirk Cameron became a hassle on the Growing Pains set.

In order to keep his distance from his coworkers—he didn't even invite any of them to his wedding—Cameron waited noisily for his contract to expire. The actor was incensed by anything too secular in the script and even said that the children's television program was similar to adult movies.

#7. Growing Pains

Hollywood is notorious for pairing up older guys with inappropriately young women. Well, Little House on the Prairie was no different, as Melissa Gilbert, who was then 15 years old, was slated to play the role of Dean Butler's wife. Dean Butler was then 23 years old.

Production problems resulted from Gilbert's understandable discomfort with the kissing scenes she had with Butler. Eventually, most of the kisses were replaced by hugs, and Dean and Melissa are now extremely close friends (platonic).

As it turned out, Roz Kelly, who played Carol "Pinky" Tuscadero on the television sitcom Happy Days, didn't find the set to be true to the show's name. Pinky was originally going to be The Fonz's long-term partner, but since Kelly had trouble getting along with her coworkers, Carol's story was cut after just three episodes.

According to Roz, "I grew up on welfare, so I don't relate to rich kids." It's okay to not be best friends, but how about just getting along on the job?

The Beverley Hillbillies' cast members held divergent political beliefs, which may cause tension in any workplace. However, when fame and power are involved, heated arguments frequently reach a breaking point.

When Buddy Ebsen appeared on the radio to support his favored party, that is what happened. While that's all well and good, he singled out Nancy Kulp, his co-star, and her opposing viewpoints while they were airing. It goes without saying that following that, Kulp was largely finished with Ebsen.

The Partridge Family cast experienced disagreements, much like any other family. However, unlike in a real family, the decision was made to expel one individual completely. In 1971, the part of Chris was recast, and the official justification provided was reasonable enough.

The family of Jeremy Gelbwaks, a young actor, relocated. The young actor's co-star David Cassidy, who starred with Gelbwaks, however, put Jeremy under the bus, claiming the real cause of his leaving was "a personality conflict with the cast and the producers."

When they were working together on The Brady Bunch set, Eve Plumb (Jan Brady) and Maureen McCormick (Marcia Brady) had to deal with all the responsibilities of being child stars. It appears that the two simply didn't get along, which may happen between coworkers.

However, when reports of a romantic relationship between the two young females started to spread, it only added gasoline to the flames. Any prospect of a Brady Bunch reunion looked to be dashed by that rumor, which seemed to be the final straw.

On the set of The Dukes of Hazzard, Tom Wopat and John Schneider, who played Luke and Bo Duke, didn't have time for minor arguments. Instead, they sued Warner Brothers for $25 million in royalties from The Dukes of Hazzard products, taking their complaints all the way to the top.

The two performers' protest-related refusal to take part in season five virtually destroyed the show's ratings, prompting the network to file a countersuit. Before an unnamed compromise was reached, that fiasco persisted for almost a year
