10 Celebrities Who Were Once Homeless

We often assume that our favorite celebrities have always been prosperous, successful, and the kind of people we aspire to be. It might be hard to imagine the most accomplished among them ever being anything less than affluent and perfect. But not all celebrities were born with a silver spoon in their mouths. Most of the big names in acting, music and sports started their lives as ordinary people just like you and me. Some of them started even lower.

#1 Jim Carrey

The well-known comedian became successful in several films because of his his slapstick performances and skillful impressions. When Jim was a youngster, his family unfortunately experienced a number of financial difficulties, leading to a period ưhen they were all homeless. After some time, things started to get better: his father got a job, and Jim and John started working as janitors. “My father lost his job and I actually became homeless for quite some time. Of course, I grew up in Canada so I thought we had just gone camping,” he said.

In addition to receiving multiple awards, Hillary Swank has starred in a many classic films, including Million Dollar Baby, Boys Don't Cry, and The Next Karate Kid. Her beginnings, meanwhile, weren't quite rosy. Her mother suggested they go to California after her parents decided to separate when she was 15. They used to sleep in their car at that time. As there was no furniture inside, one of their friends who was selling their home allowed them to remain and sleep on the floor. After a few months, Hilary was finally getting roles and making money, but when she was cast in Beverly Hills 90210, her career took a sharp change.

JLo had humble beginnings, living on a sofa in a dance studio. She had a clear vision of what she wanted to do in life, but her mother wanted her to attend college. Jennifer eventually moved out of the family home and went to New York to pursue her dancing career. She was practically homeless during that period, but with her troupe, she traveled to Europe on tour and after getting back to the US, job offers started to pour in. She eventually got into the acting world and has experienced success.

Despite not coming from an affluent household, Steve Harvey understood from a young age that he wanted to work in television. He worked a variety of jobs, such as selling insurance, doing auto repair, and cleaning carpets, to achieve this dream. Yet the 1980s would prove to be a very difficult decade for him as he had to spend three years living on the streets.
Harvey wanted to be on stage and make people laugh, and his big break came in 1990 when he had a televised gig at the Apollo.

Daniel Craig was initially hesitant to play agent 007 in Casino Royale due to his lack of Bondish appearance. Despite this, he eventually dove into the role and achieved worldwide recognition.
The fact that Daniel wasn't always so lucky before succeeding is something that most people are unaware of. He had to work in restaurants while attending the National Youth Theater in London during his formative years as an actor. He used to periodically sleep on park benches as a struggling actor before he rose to the top of the profession.

In one of her interviews, Halle Berry admitted that she wasn't as interested in acting when she was a little child. She kind of fell into her love of the theatre by accident. Halle worked as a model when she was 18 years old and residing in Chicago. Because she frequently experienced boredom on the weekends, she decided to start attending acting courses in order to stay busy.
Halle Berry was encouraged to study acting by her teacher and moved to New York to pursue her career. However, she was evicted from her apartment and ended up in a homeless shelter. Despite this, she was determined to find a way to succeed and has become one of the most successful actresses, winning both a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award. She also played a homeless woman in the movie Jungle Fever.

Carmen started her career as a dancer, but later tried acting, modeling, and singing. She also organized fundraisers and supported charities. However, before reaching her breakthrough in the drama series Baywatch, her life was not glamorous.
She experienced ups and downs while residing in Hollywood, and at one time she found herself without a place to stay. She was in a difficult situation and just had little spare coins. She didn't want to quit up though, so she contacted her choreographer, who assisted her in finding a management and a PR. So, Carmen would attend every possible audition, and ultimately, all of her efforts paid off when she was cast as a star in Baywatch.

One of the most famous entrepreneurs and co-founder of the Apple company, Steve Jobs, dropped out of Reed College after the first semester due to his dissatisfaction with spending his parents' money on education.
As he was without a place anymore, Steve had to sleep on the floor of his friend's dorm room. Along with collecting Coke bottles, which he subsequently traded for cash, Steve also received a free lunch once a week from the neighborhood temple. Later, when he introduced many typefaces and proportionally spaced fonts in Mac, it all made sense because he wouldn't have known about them if it hadn't been for the calligraphy lesson.

#9 Sylvester Stallone

Sylvester Stallone was born with paralysis due to an accident during his birth. He was often bullied at school due to his appearance, which would later make him unique in the acting world.
Stallone experienced financial hardship prior to having the opportunity to find fame in the Entertainment industry. The situation was so severe that he had to sell his dog in order to live since he had nowhere to stay and was forced to sleep at the bus station. After a while, though, things began to turn around: Stallone's blockbuster film Rocky became a success, and he began to make more money. He went back to the person he had sold his dog to, got his pet back, and everything turned up well.

When the singer-songwriter relocated to Los Angeles to further her music career in 2001, she attempted to create a breakthrough. Kelly rang every door she could find, but she was unsuccessful in getting a record company in the United States to take her on. Her apartment burning down made matters worse, forcing her to spend a few days sleeping in her car. She had to give up her ambition because there weren't many job options, so she returned to her hometown.
But it seems that certain fantasies were destined to come true. She won an audition for the first season of the reality television program American Idol: The Search for a Superstar after being encouraged to do so by a friend. Later, Clarkson would enter into agreements with other record labels. Kelly claimed that she felt as though she had no choice but to battle for her career because she had nothing to her name—not even clothing.
