The first trailer for Netflix's star-studded "You People" rom-com has finally arrived. The Kenya Barris-directed comedy stars Eddie Murphy, Jonah Hill, Lauren London, and Nia Long in a "Guess Who"-meets-"Meet the Fockers" scenario where cultures clash over an impending marriage proposal.

2. What is ‘You People’ about?

You People Release Date

In the film's trailer, released on Dec. 5, Hill's Ezra has an intense sit-down meeting with Murphy's Akbar and Long's Fatima to ask for permission to marry their daughter Amira (London). However, the protective parents aren't exactly receptive to marrying off their Black daughter to a strange white man they barely know. "So, do you hang in the hood all the time, or do you just come here for our food and women?" Murphy asks bluntly in the clip.
Ezra Cohen (Hill) gets into Amira Mohammed's (Lauren London) car by mistake one day, thinking she's his rideshare. Once she's recovered from her shock and accepts his invitation to a date, the two quickly bond over their shared love of sneakers and music. It's soon obvious that they've finally found that special someone. So unique, in fact, that it's time to consider combining their families. Ezra's progressive and semi-woke Jewish parents (Julia Louis-Dreyfus and David Duchovny) and Amira's unyielding yet concerned Muslim parents (Julia Louis-Dreyfus and David Duchovny) enter the picture (Eddie Murphy and Nia Long). What do they all have in common? The ability to wreak havoc on their children's lives — with hilarious results.

3. Who are ‘You People’ casts?

You People Release Date

You People boasts a stacked comedy ensemble. “These collaborators are masters at their craft,” London said of her co-stars. “You have Eddie Murphy and Julia and Nia Long and David Duchovny and Jonah Hill — and Kenya as the captain of the ship. Everyone brought in their specialness and their art.”
Starring alongside the main cast is Sam Jay (3 in the Morning), Molly Gordon (Shiva Baby), La La Anthony, Travis Bennett, Andrea Savage, Rhea Perlman,  Deon Cole, Elliott Gould, Mike Epps, and many more.
Excitement for ‘You People’ rose earlier this year when first-look photos from the movie went viral on social media — partially because of its stacked cast of comedy legends and well-known stars. Based on Barris's track record ("Black-ish," "#BlackAF," 2019's "Shaft," "Coming 2 America"), viewers are definitely in for lots of laughs in his forthcoming movie.
