It's important to note that while the TV series "Shadow and Bone" is based on the Grishaverse book series by Leigh Bardugo, there are significant differences between the two versions. So, it's possible that the show may deviate from the book's plot regarding Nikolai's transformation.
However, if the TV series follows the book's plot, then it seems that Nikolai has been transformed into a nichevo'ya by Kirigan using dark magic. The transformation may have been intentional, as Kirigan has a history of using merzost to create powerful monsters.
Nikolai's quest to break the curse and rid himself of the monster's influence would likely be a major plotline in the upcoming seasons. However, accidentally resurrecting Kirigan would add an interesting twist to the story and create more challenges for Nikolai and the other characters to face.

The finale is extremely intense! Alina and Mal face off with the Darkling in the Shadow Fold, and Alina finally manages to perform a light-based version of the Darkling's Cut, which injures him. But the Darkling tries to kill Mal and begs Alina to join him. Alina refuses and delivers a fatal blow with the Neshyener Sword.
Although the Darkling appears to be dead, his future is uncertain. Fans of fantasy stories and the series may not believe that Aleksander is gone for good. Alina, Genya, and Zoya light his funeral pyre, but we'll have to wait and see what happens in the future if the series adapts "King of Scars."

Alina uses the Cut power to bisect a Fjerdan spy, which is a telekinetic power to slice objects. She is initially shocked but then feels empowered by the act. Interestingly, the Cut comes out as a black, dark power instead of the bright light she's used to, suggesting she's using dark magic.
Alina previously used this dark magic to resurrect Mal and it seems to have taken a hold of her, making her slowly turn into her enemy, Kirigan, the Darkling. Her sinister smirk at the end is similar to Kirigan's, and although she's not quite on par with him, she's heading in the same direction. It's unclear if she'll fully submit to the darkness.

Kaz and Inej finally confess their feelings for each other in Shadow and Bone season 2, but Kaz is still struggling to open up emotionally. Instead, he helps Inej search for her missing brother by providing a lead to start their search. Inej and Mal set off on Nikolai's ship with Tamar, Tolya, and Nadia, but Inej remains on a mission to find her brother while also tracking down slaver ships. The season ends with Inej using a telescope to search for a ship ahead, tying back to Kaz's lead and Inej's determination to find her family.
